Songkran
Well, I thought it was pretty mellow out there today. Went into the fitness center this morning, streets nearly deserted, a few kids throwing water. Drove back home, around noon, stopped at a couple places for food to go. Streets still not very busy, a little more intense water throwing. I stayed off Posri Rd. and the areas around Nong Prajak and the Mall.
My route takes me past a few of the student apartments, and many of the young ladies were soaked. Their wet skimpy t-shirts and wet short-shorts, clinging to their wet glistening bodies, gave me concern, don't want the cuties to get a cold. I wanted to stop and offer them a warm towel and hot cup of tea. But, reason took over.

Sure,if you have on a Songkran shirt(flower shirt)and a water dispenser! You can bet on beig ''IT''.Met a Brit the other day beaming from ear to ear, completely soaked! He told me that heis return from England was scheduled so that he could ''play''Songkran!Great to see a falang enjoying Songkran as much as the locals!
They don't have a seperate ceremony for farangs but we were all invited to join in with the one organised by Khun Hanchai the Mayor of Udon Thani. I actually copied the invite onto the Udon Thani forum. We had a special place in the parade , being led by traditional dressed Thai girls displaying a banner in English. We marched from the university to Nong Prajak through streets filled with smiling, water throwing Thais of all ages, Upon arrival we joined in the traditional ceremonies with the local old folk and souvenirs were given to all that participated by the Mayor.Afraid to say that , though many foreigners took part, participants from this forum were not very evident. Only myself and Pop Pops being noticable. Maybe it shows that the need to communicate on an English speaking forum reveals a general reluctance to partake in the more general Thai forum around us.Sorry I don't have photos to show but Lee was observed taking some shots from the safety of a No Water vantage point.Maybe he will reveal all?rocket2 wrote:Was there a ceremony for the farang this year?
Some of the farangs gather before the parade in our free Songkran shirts.
The Mayor, Khun Hanchai with my wife and self, all soaking wet.

This possibly should be in Pop-Pops joke column but it is directly related to Songkran. I have been trying to keep this to myself for two days now, but everyone thinks I am going crazy, I keep chuckling to myself, so I've got to let it out. Sorry Pops
Pops and I were sitting talking when one of the stewards came over and selected him to make the presentation to the Mayor. He went to sit in front in preparation. I, pretending to be annoyed, asked the lady why she didn't choose me. She replied it is best done by the older person Whooo!! Pops.
