I seriously doubt that an international degree program taught in English is available in Udon or even in Bangkok. Have you searched for online university programs? Keep seeing ads for Univ. of Phoenix but don't know how legit they are.

U.S. Universities in Thailand

Post by FrazeeDK » April 15, 2007, 10:36 am

there's a number of U.S. Based universities with campuses and english curriculum in Thailand. Most are down in BKK and I think one or two in Chiang Mai, perhaps one down near Pattaya. Among them, they offer a variety of courses, undergraduate and Post Graduate. I haven't seen anything affiliate with any school in Udon but perhaps Khon Khaen University, being the largest in Isaan might be affiliated and offer some courses in English..

I haven't taken the bus but understand there are many departures. Maybe 1 or 2 per Hr.

Stay away from U of Phoenix. They do not, to my knowledge, have national accreditation in the US. Payap U. in CM, has a masters program for TEFL. Not sure if your interested in that. What do you plan to do with your degree? Is it simply for recreation (which I applaud) or are you planning to use it back in your home country?

I do not plan on using it in my home country. I was thinking of maybe geting a BA in Ed TEFL, so I can teach english. Teaching english is the only job I can think of that is in demand for native english speakers. Do you know of any other work, jobs that are in demand for native english speakers besides speaking english?

What are the neccessary requirements, education to get such a job?

Thanks

Have never heard of a BA in Ed TEFL. You can get a TEFL Masters Degree - which is a continuation of the basic TEFL courses available.

To teach English - technically you need to have a Bachelors Degree or above. However, government schools do not require the Bachelors Degree and you are able to get a work permit. This is true for here in Udon Thani. Other parts of the country may be different.

Doc,

Are you saying all I need to have is a TEFL Certification, without a bacholors degree and I could teach english courses at a goverment school while I lived in Udon?

If so how easy is it to come by those jobs? How much do they pay? Can I work part time say 10-15 hours a week ?

Oh, what TEFL course do you suggest? The one at AIU in Udon is it worth taking or should I look elsewhere?

Thanks for your help.
