See map below.
The Licensing office is on the bottom floor as you drive in.

I have 1 yr bike lic can I get a 5 yr at AEK Udon when it comes up for renewal with my retirement visa?
If so where is AEK Udon?
Thanks
Yes, but you do not have a retirement visa unless you have a current Non-OA long stay visa from an embassy.

The difference between a visa and an extension of stay is not academic and is important.

and then we all had to endure that mind numbing video for an hour
THAT statement? I will have to agree with! Effin idiots! - Most of the Thais in my group were asleep within 5 mins of it starting.
They haven't bothered to figure why they are now top of the vehicle/bike deaths in the world! (per head of population)
AND the wan$@ke#s still only count the carnage on the roads - NOT those who pass away later in hospital from complications.

I have Non O which I renew/ extend each year
So if I can’t get 5 year can I renew my 2 year drivers license at AEK Udon or do I have to slap down to the DLT?

Again to repeat my answer with more detail: Yes you can renew either a 2year or 5year or 2year to 5year or 5year to 2year, best to do it just after the licence expires. But you will get a 5 year licence not a 2 year one because you have a long term extension of stay.

But you do not have a Non O visa, that has expired or been used, a Non-O visa can never be extended or renewed.

You have an extension of stay based on retirement, different beast, different rules, issued in different countries.

Renewed drivers licence yesterday at the AEK hospital decided to get there early about 9.45am realised the doors were open already and people queuing up inside the office with the line going outside.
anyway managed the 1 hour video ordeal .
there were roughly about 18 people in the class.
renewed for another 5 years i came in about 2 months early which in turn gave me 5 years and 2 months at a total cost of 555baht.
No yellow book so letter from immigration original plus copies of passport page and visa entry and TM6 copy of the front and back of licence copy plus original licence of course. :D

Just renewed my 2 year driving licenses for a 5 Year one.

Decided to go & try the main office on the Khon Kean highway after reading all the posts about renewing at AEK.

Arrived at the Office at 1040 am it is approx 13Km further than AEK & took approx 10 mins longer drive.
I was lucky to get a parking spot as the car park was quite full.

You have to go upstairs for license renewals.

Handed in my documents at desk 1 (inquiries).
Some Staff speak English & were very friendly & helpful.

Two copies of yellow book 2 copies of passport along with 2 copies of my visa extension & Tm 60 card.
I took 2 copies of my old license but they gave them back as not needed.
One copy of Medical Certificate & original obtained fro a Clinic for 100 B (not hospital as AEK sometimes ask for apparently).

Was directed to take the medical test (color blind test, Reaction Test & alignment test).
Did that then paid the fees 255 B for motorbike 505 B for car license.

Was the told to get photo taken & gave receipt for payment to woman who prints the license.
She gave me the 2 licenses then left the building at 1107 am (27 mins total time).

Did not have to watch video.

Maybe I was lucky but it was worth the 10 mins extra drive to save the hassle of queuing up at AEK .

I renewed my 2nd 5 year at AEK Wednesday. I got there at 9:30 am, was the first person to be inline at the entrance door. About 5 people were in seating area we were all waiting for the door to open at 10:00 am. When the door was opened, I was the first in line. I gave a copy of my yellow book, passport info. and old license. No medical certificate required. I watched video which begins at 10:30 and ends 11:30. There were about 20 people there. Video complete, I was the first person called to pay and have photo. I was out the door at 11:45 am. I found it much easier than going to the main Office as I did my first 5 year there. However, we all obtained a renewed license and in the end that is all that matters.

You do not need medical certificate to renew a 5 year license but you do need one to renew your 2 year license to get a 5 year one.

AFAIK, there's no legal requirement to update your Thai DL with any new passport number. The only reason I last did it was to make getting a car note easier. In a typically Thai fashion, dealerships and finance companies want copies of everything that confirms one's identity and local address. I was advised by the sales lady that although my yellow book address matched my Thai DL address and the picture on my Thai DL was the same as the one in my current passport, my Thai DL had the number of my old passport. IIRC, it was a 15 minute job to get the DL updated and replaced under AEK with a fee prorated on how much validity remained on the re-issued DL.
