I got attacked by a Trogen 3 times, it multiplied itself by the second...I beat it off with my 3 programs: SuperAnti-Virus, Lorus Antivirus, and "unhackme" . After about 20 minutes, I had deleted about 3,500 viruses.
I won all 3 times. I am a Gladiator!

There is no Ghost in the machine. If anyone had some Knowledge you could scan your computer and networkand try to hack in.. If you are hiding ---- or doing illegal ---- over here then yes be worried.. I am guessing 98% of you are on Windows based systems (computers not smartphones). I would be then worried you installed some ---- antivirus / spyware for free because your mate told you too.. Guess what.. be worried...
Lets get back to Linux here. Linux is great. Ubuntu is great for old computers you cannot put Windows 10++ on because you bought it at Landmark.. If you need Photoshop or Itunes well buy a f#$ken Mac. Macs run a version of FreeBSD (linux) that they customized.. But who wants to spend $30k baht..
Here is more.. I run 2 laptops here. One is a Macbook with VirtualMachine (Ubuntu and different versions of Windows for testing my applications).. I also have a nice Asus runing Ubuntu and stated above a Raspberry Pi.. I have various versions of Linux on memory sticks too..

Natas, Linux is fine but for the average user (98% ? maybe) it's going to be a pain unless the only things they want to do is browse the Internet and check email.

But most people will want to install additional software and attach devices via USB or network, external drives, phones, printers.

Now is tax season for US citizens, try installing your favorite tax software on Linux. Good luck. Pick up the newest mainstream multi-function printer at Lotus and connect to your Linux computer via USB or network, pray for a miracle then spend hours searching online for solutions to why it fails.

Both these things, software and hardware/drivers installation, are usually a breeze with Windows. With Linux prepare for frustrations and the inevitable failures. Sure there are workarounds like virtual machines but once again that's not for the average user.

"Open source" means that all the files used to compile your software are right there for you to inspect. At this very moment there are probably thousands of computer science students studying the Linux kernel or utilities. Geez Louise, don't you guys understand that!!! Then there used to be hacking competitions where hackers would ply their trade for the prize of who could hack what system first.... usually some form of Windows would be hacked within a few minutes. If I recall properly, Ubuntu was never hacked by these pros. Does that mean that there isn't some backdoor somewhere in some utility program that is hardly used.. possibly, but you'd have to install that strange program from some strange repository that is hardly ever used.

I think this really comes down to "Idiot America" again, that is, expertise doesn't matter, "I'm an expert after googling something and studying it for five minutes". The anti-science, anti-expert mantra that is America today. Apparently spreading far and wide.

I said that, personally I would not use a distribution that was 2 years old (Tails 2.4:386) or one that was 7 years old (Privatix.11.04.11_en) but if you wanted to that was 'up to you'..

What they told you was that if you didn't install updates you would be vulnerable to every hacker on the planet who wanted to play.

Yes it sucks that most accounting software runs on Windows (simply accounting, quickbooks, etc). Now a days some of the companies have it online and in the Browser.. So.. installing a new printer on Linux can be time consuming for sure. Running a VM also can be tricky.
My overall goal was to post options to people.

Back to Felix.. Linux was created by Linus Torvald in answer for a cheap free alternative to UNIX.. You being such a google expert figured you would have learned that.. Again I say, there is no such thing as safe, open software. Now when I open Firefox, it takes about 1 minute (to install all the AI software). And, no, I don't use Google except for peacemaker77g@gmail.com and thats my wifes.
I got no Microsoft updates installed..no Visual MS, no service packs, no Nivida, I will soon start deleting all drivers that are associated with MS. Lets see what that brings. My guess is "Nothing will happen". Why? Because they need us connected to these machines so they can track all we do. Oh My, did I just let the cat out of the box? YouTube "recommends " videos to us. But you may go in and de-select all options...no you cannot. I did it and I still get what they want me to see. So there is a Ghost in the machine. and its watching us all.
