HOW RIDICULOUS IS THIS? (TOYOTA UDON THANI)

This Monday morning, on her way to work in Nong Bua,the windscreen of my g/f's car was struck,by a stone which put a hole in it.

No problem we thought and she took it into the Toyota dealer in Nong Bua who had supplied the car (new) and organised the insurance less than three months ago.

It turned out, though, that unless she w3as prepared to pay 'up front' and claim back she had to take it to Toyota in Udon.

Not ideal but no real problem as we live in Udon and she is here 4 days per week (weekends/evenings) BUT they will not order the new windscreen until they've inspected it and refuse to accept the photo of the damage, taken by Toyota in Nong Bua, as evidence (please see below).



This can't happen until Saturday and I can't understand their problem, but it means another week before it's repaired and a further (unnecessary imho) visit to the dealer.

It could be sorted out (fitted) on Saturday, rather than inspected on Saturday.

I can understand where the dealers are coming from = an insurance claim is NOT their problem! Your course of action should have been to go directly to the insurance company and told em of the incident/accident, they would have sent a rep out within hours to do an assessment and get the ball rolling on the repair. The Thai insurance companies are quite good in that way.

I can't disagree with that but my gripe related to Toyota in Udon not being prepared to accept photographic evidence of the need for replacement from Toyota in Nong Bua and insisting that they inspect the damage before they will order a replacement.

That does nobody any good - it takes up more of their time and my g/f's time, nobody wins and everyone loses.

Ring the insurance company direct now for advice, don't wait the 7 days.

OK there is a crack but it is not dangerous just the outer lamination on the left side. If TGF is currently driving on shoddy roads why not wait a few months and re avaluate the situation = replace this just to have it hit again!

Even in Thailand it has to be illegal to drive with a cracked windscreen

Could be mistaken but don't most insurance companies cover the windscreen without the above penalty?

Don't know about Thailand but in some places the damage has to appear in a certain section of the drivers position.
In Aus I believe it is a 300mm square directly in front of the driver.

Just maybe Toyota want to see it as the photo isn't clear enough to determine wether it can be repaired , it's a type of welding they do , but if there's a hole in it ,it can't be done ,replacement screen only ,

I wouldn't have thought the crack in the picture could be repaired. Notwithstanding how long it is, it looks to me as though its gone right to the edge of the screen under the sealing rubber so severely impairing the integrity of the glass

As usual Giggles you know nothing of the topic you are discussing.

If this happened in the UK you would phone & explain the situation to your insurance company.
Within an hour a specialist windscreen fitting company would phone you back & arrange to fit a new windscreen at a time convenient to you, either at your workplace or home or anywhere else you suggested.
No charge...

Not all dealers have body shops or do glass work. And agreed, it does seem to be an insurance matter. They send a mobile installer to your work or residence in the States..one phone call. If AEK can require Bupa clients to pay first, why can't Toyota? I can't imagine a Thai driver taking a rock from following too closely....bwahaha.

Insurance agents are rarely the same people, who adjust claims...kind of obvious why.

I don't understand why the OP just didn't pay for the screen up front and get reimbursed later, then it would have been a simple matter of having it fixed by the dealer in Nong Bua and he could have saved himself all the grief and confusion. Surely it couldn't have been that expensive.

2) This though is the interesting one, it will then take them two days to fit it!!

Who do they employ to do this? It sounds to me as though they use people who have NEVER worked on a car before!

Sorry it's not same same the west... well, maybe in Bangkok it is.

Cash has always been individual in Thailand.

And one always calls the insurance company first instead of listening to the farang.

There are some more expensive glues, but normal one component glue dries in 8-12 hours. Before that old windscreen must be removed and old glue cleaned from body. It is 10-14 hours together and means two working days, even most of the time will be just glue drying.

Authorized bodyshop must follow instructions given by factory and also use glue that factory asks to use. That is the only way to be sure that windscreen does not uncork after collision and air bags working.

Yes, it is possible to use Sikaflex and belts to fit windscreen to body during installation. Of course not use tools to keep windscreen in correct distance from vehicle body. During this heat it is a must. It is dry after one hours and of course it is not a must to remove old glue totally. That way vehicle is ready to drive after 1-2 hours. And one can do it by himself. DIY uncorking windscreen I call it... Ready to drive really does not mean same as safe to drive in this case.
