In preliminary releases, the EU has agreed to Trump's terms on lowering industrial tariffs to enhance US trade opportunities, lower non-tariff barriers to increase agricultural trade, and committed to increased import of liquid natural gas to offset Russian energy dependence.

Juncker and Trump made a joint announcement in the Rose Garden at the White House. The agreement is looked upon as a win-win for both the EU and US.

The agreement also highlights the fact that the EU and the US are working toward no tariffs, no barriers and no subsidies, which is what Trump proposed at the G8 Summit.

There’s a real issue here, the EU drunkard Mr Junker has promised something he can’t fulfil, the EU doesn’t actually purchase anything per say, unless of course they’ve passed a law that centralises purchasing on behalf of member states? My guess is he was at the Sherry and forgot how the European economy really works and being the astute business man he is I’m surprised Trump fell for this “agreement”.

This trade impasse didn't have anything to do with buying. That is always done by individuals and companies. The trade impasse was directly related to tariffs, barriers on certain goods and services and subsidies.

It looks as though the EU can knock down trade barriers, remove tariffs and affect subsidies. In a free market, purchases are made based on need and or desires of the individual or companies in free societies.

If, as you state, the EU has no control over those three areas when it comes to trade, then I wonder how many other areas are not actually controlled by the EU over the member countries.

Yes, you're correct. Buying is an individual decision.

I would bet that the agreement had to do with buying less LNG from Russia and replacing that deficit with purchases of LNG from the US -- which was a major sticking point at NATO and at the G8. I don't know the specifics regarding soybeans, but there may have been a trade barrier that prevented any soybeans from being imported. I'll have to read up. If those barriers are lifted, then there would be a potential for higher purchase of soybeans if none could be purchased at all before. Like I said, I'll read up.

I’m sure that’s the idea but the EU still cannot at this time instruct member states to purchase what and from where. Soya beans have been imported from the US for many years, the UK alone currently imports about 3/4 million tonnes per annum, I was there when the UK opened its first soya trading market back in the 1970’s it was called SOMFA, at that time I’d never heard of Soya Beans, how the world has changed eh!
