I should mention i recently bought them in Home pro Buriram but imagime each Home pro has the same stock range , i got Haco brand off the shelf ..some other brands required ordering.

I'd read someone complaining on the big forum that the ones sold by Homepro wouldn't work with bulbs less than 40w which would defeat the object of an LED bulb. Its worth a look though, thanks

The ones i got worked but cant remember the wattage of led bulbs were i think some 9w some 20w.

Ah gotcha.
I'm looking at normal 60-watt incandescent bulb brightness which I believe to be about 9w to 10w equivalent LED so hopefully the dimmers would work even though they might be rated for over 40w

i might add Niggly ... the single dimmer i fitted in the bedrooms run 6 x 9w LED lights so MAYBE that means 54w total ?? im not sure but they work fine.

Do you know what, I was thinking the same thing. I want mine to operate at least 10 LEDs in the specific area & they’re likely to be 9w or 10w each so that would be over 90w load which is more than double the advertised operating load of 40w for the dimmer.
I really don’t understand all this electrical stuff so probably need to consult someone in the faint hope they know what they’re talking about. Unfortunately the Thai sparkles will probably just nod enthusiastically

Yes, I've got that, cheers. The electrical wholesalers on Srisuk Road told me. Its just the dimmers thats got me stumped at the moment. Most say they operate between 40w & 300w but LED bulbs are a lot lower wattage than this. I'm working on the basis as DM suggests that multiple bulbs will increase the load over 40w & the dimmers will work.

That's true. Look on the side of the box if it can be dimmed it will say so. A standard trailing edge dimmer will happily dim a 6 watt dimmable LED bulb.

Most LED bulbs and LED light fittings available in Thailand are non dimmable and AFIK cannot be dimmed what ever you do.

In my experience the Leading Edge Dimmer Switch is the one to use with (Dimmable) LED lamps.
Also, unless you go to a specialist LED Control Supplier, you will find a maximum LED load that can be dimmed.
LED lamps are not as consistent in dimming as the old incandescent lamps due to the differences in the control gear used in their manufacture, and usually will not go too dim, and sometimes even flash if you take them too low.
All down to the quality of the LED lamp, there are so many cheap Chinese lamps on the market that are not really upto the job. We always use branded (Philips/Sylvania/GE etc:) lamps and a reputable Leading Edge dimmer switch.

I’ve decided against dimmers now. Too many ifs, shoulds & mights. I’ve planned it so you can switch the lights on in “zones” making it dimmer by default if you don’t switch them all on. That should be enough for my simple tastes

Have two Panasonic dimmer switches on my lounge lighting system .
One controls the eight wall lights , Tungston type bulbs .
The other controls the eight ceiling lights , Halagen bulbs .
Both dimmers are useless ! The one controling the wall lights ive changed twice in ten years , burnrt out . Now its just an on off switch .
The other controlling the ceiling lights is still working , but basically because its rarely used .
It was a nice idea , but here with Allah knows how many outages and power surges just not practical .

I’m now struggling to think when I would actually use the dimmer function. More just find a setting I liked & keep using it.
Regular switches for zones of bulbs is the way to go
I’m going for LED throughout the house for power saving, longevity & I understand they attract less insects to incandescent bulbs

Zones for lights is a good way to go, we have gone that way for the undimmable 9 watt strip lights in our drop ceiling.

But it depends on the colour of the LED's as to the attraction for insect life, the flies like cool white lights.
