No question about it.

Sin taxes on tobacco and alcohol are the same, but if the consumer doesn't purchase those items, they don't pay it. I don't categorize smokers and drinkers as "suckers" for paying the tax on their vices. They do it because they want the product. Consumers only pay if they decide to buy. Most knowledgeable consumers shop for value when a choice is involved.

Harley owners in Thailand pay a huge import duty on parts for their bikes -- because they need them and want them. They pay those duties fully aware of why the parts are more expensive. They like their bikes and want the best parts for them. They make that choice.

Where consumers have a choice, they almost always bypass the "added costs" and opt for something else or nothing. There are even some Harley after-market products that are less expensive than the Harley product.

The voluntary exchange of assets for products and services is what makes Free Enterprise FREE.

People bitch and moan about these tariffs but there's a simple answer, buy British or in your case American whenever you can, at least the extra you're paying goes towards keeping a manufacturing or farming job in your own country, and yes I did always try to buy home produce whenever I could, Tesco's are very good at putting Union Jack's on UK products.

The dim part is how it is accepted by the sheep, Harley's give us a break ,how many Harleys do the Chinese make. china is producing products for the mass market, phones, computers, tv's ,fridges. that effects everybody, not just a bunch of cosplay bikers. my view is I want the best products at the best price and yes it pisses me off to know the government would be adding an extra 25% tax on products for my benefit …..Trumps good , he gets them to cheer when he says he's going to tax them more. Check out the French when their government try raising taxes

And that's what the US has the capacity to do. I've said it from the very beginning in this thread. The US can produce all of the necessities to sustain life and day-to-day living. Americans can choose to pass on Chinese products and be unaffected by any tariff-added price.

Dreaming . consumers have voted with their money, that's why americans buy so much and they have deficit in the first place . tariffs ain't free enterprise. vince mentioned Dim didn't he . well that comes to mind when I hear people saying "I love to pay more because it gives more tax to the government " maybe carbon tax should be increased . I don't think you'll find many people swallowing that line of BS

Did anyone say they love paying more to give the government more tax revenue? That hasn't even been remotely insinuated. Either a feeble attempt to lie, poor comprehension or more straw man bullshiggity.

Again -- consumers are sometimes willing to pay more, due to taxation, for stuff they want or absolutely need. Tobacco, alcohol, electronics, motorcycle parts, imported products from home, etc. Each consumer has their own value system based on personal wants and needs. Their personal standards as they relate to value drives their purchases. If they want/need the product, they buy it.

Taxes and tariffs dissuade a consumer when they really don't have to have it or can't afford it. Or can get the product domestically for less.

Haven't seen any mass consumer protests in the US because they can't get cheap Chinese stuff -- or cheap stuff from anywhere for that matter.

The US has weathered this tariff hysteria pretty well.
