Its working , its about 10 years old , i thinks its 80gb but cant be sure on that.
Re: Photos from an old hard drive ? Where to go
I plugged it into a docking station and seen the files but i couldnt find the photos , though the docking station was from a friend and it kept losing connection to my laptop, he said he never had much success with it either , very cheap one he got off ebay.

Ok thanks for the tip.
It gets out of hand these photos being stored on old devices , my wife just seems to accept that you lose old photos and doesnt want to bother trying to recover them.
I now have three different hard drives all full of photos , two of the machines still operational, the plan was to just get everything stored on one hard drive then back it up also.

If the photos are worth keeping forever, and you can extract them, I'd look at purchasing a cloud account and upload them all there. Then you won't have to be concerned with hardware failure. Goodle has some very inexpensive annual fees -- less than $20 USD a year for 100 GB of space.

A usb to sata ide adaptor such as linked below can be used even if there is a fault preventing the hdd from being recognised as an added drive. Simply plug in to a usb port. It has it's own power supply and a host of adaptor plugs.
Saved me a lot of bother on a few occasions.

Usually cost around AU$15 to AU$18 delivered.

No need to pay, google Photo's has unlimited storage for picturesif you are happy with high quality instead of original size... I could help extracting from HD, but will not be in Udon till about September...Lone Star wrote: ↑March 15, 2019, 7:12 pmIf the photos are worth keeping forever, and you can extract them, I'd look at purchasing a cloud account and upload them all there. Re: Photos from an old hard drive ? Where to go
Google photos provides free online storage and Google recently released a free app that scours your computer for photo files and uploads them to your account in the cloud
Re: Photos from an old hard drive ? Where to go
The name of the app is google photos backup and sync. It's free.
