Re: Is it time to say bye Thailand?
Well, if I wanted a Western quality of life, I guess I would live in Canada like yourself. For now, I am more than happy with the quality of life afforded me in Thailand.

If you want to ride a Harley , wear Levis , and live on burgers , then Thailand was never the place to live in the first place There are some similarities though . Useless Prime Ministers being the first ......

Nothing wrong with living in Thailand if it suits you and it still has it's good points. My point was you cannot compare costs unless you compare lifestyles. When I owned my house in Hua Hin I could get by on 30,000 baht per monthnewtovillagelife wrote: ↑June 5, 2019, 6:05 amWell, if I wanted a Western quality of life, I guess I would live in Canada like yourself. but it was not the same quality of life I had in Canada.

When I was living in Alberta, at least 6 months of the year were spent enduring bitter cold temperatures. To me that drastically lowered my quality of life.jai yen yen wrote: ↑June 5, 2019, 6:38 amNothing wrong with living in Thailand if it suits you and it still has it's good points. Alberta is not the greatest place to live, I personally would never live there. I would definately choose Thailand over Alberta.newtovillagelife wrote: ↑June 5, 2019, 6:59 amWhen I was living in Alberta, at least 6 months of the year were spent enduring bitter cold temperatures. I was born and raised in the farm country of Ohio. Farm country Ohio is a great place to raise a family. Every farm had a shotgun sitting in an easily accessed corner and all the kids were trained to respect and know how to use it, thus VERY little crime there. The problem was that I absolutely hated the winters. A snowmobile is fun but was one of the things I was happily willing to give up. The only place I ever want to see ice again is in my glass. I have no ice problems here in Thailand, every small store has bags of it for sale.
Re: Is it time to say bye Thailand?
Paul Arjay posted Alternatives to Thailand as he was not keen on a long haul flight's. I suggested Vietnam but this is also a long haul flight from the UK same as most Asia destinations are, we are looking at a 13 hour flight from the uk to South East Asia. Unfortunately if we are looking at Alternatives to Thailand and your looking at Asia then its a long haul flight. Unless you stay closer like Spain or Greece.
Re: Is it time to say bye Thailand?
Some members have questioned my reason's for returning if I don't like Thailand. I have never once said I don't like Thailand others jumped on the bandwagon stating my dislike for jet skis posts from 10 years ago.Let me remind you why i had a go at these jet ski opps, HMS Bulwark was on R+R in Phuket at the time and an infamous jet ski operator held up and threatened one with a gun unless he stumped up a huge price for damage he did not do. This i posted at the time I have only posted what I have seen so for the one's i have had a go at over the years yes i have but at the time it was news.I believe his name was JJ Neiman. anyway back on to track i have had a THBP which I need to be checked on a 3 Month basis so if I lived in Thailand this would cause me severe financial cost if i did not have Medical insurance, another reason I kept returning was for the Climate and at the time the cheapness, plus the many friends I have met. These are the main reasons I kept returning but times have changed and im not getting any younger with my Health issues. I hope this answers some of the questions other members have asked.

Presumably London to Ho Chi Minh City. I think Vlad's looking for an appealing place closer to home.
I think the climate in Thailand is a negative. The climate in Auckland where I am is way better than Udon's.

GT93 I can assure you im not looking at closer to home I like travel not a hop over to Spain or Greece or Tenerife. A friend of mine who lives in Udon has just returned from Da Nang where he was pleased with the Beach's the locals were friendly it was not commercialised and the pricing was unbelievable. That was only One destination with many tourists now giving up Thailand and exploring other places.

Costa rica is looking good . Stable government , no army , first class health care , and as a bonus the country is trying to be 100% renewable energy within the next 15 to 20 years . yes , 100%. Now thats a country i could get on board with .

Portugal or Cyprus fits the bill
I was born with nothing and still have most of it left
Re: Is it time to say bye Thailand?
nice places joepai but he European holiday spots are just too expensive and most Greek Islands have been spoiled by migrants crossing. For what you pay for 2 weeks in Rhodes Cyprus you can go to East Asia for a month.

Agreed. I'd be happy to get out of Melbourne, May to September, with a combination of Bali and Thailand. Rest of the year the weather is great.

Re: Is it time to say bye Thailand?
just read a report today on Patyaya One head line " Please Stop Robbing and Beating Tourist's. " On 4th June The chief of Patong Police Col Anotai Jindamanee called a meeting to say to the Tuk Tuk and Taxi head to tell there members to stop robbing tourist's and beating them which is affecting tourism numbers and sending giving Phuket a bad image. So they have realised tourism in Phuket is struggling and numbers keep falling. Well its to late in the day now the damage and reputation has finally ended tourism in Phuket. Before I get the anti vlad thai bashers this headline is clear for all to see on Patt's One from the chief of Police.I tried to copy the link but it keeps telling me its an invalid message and can't be copied. This is just the tip of the Iceberg for Thailand's Coffin as a tourist destination in my opinion. The TAT can alter the numbers and tell everyone numbers are up but when a chief of the Police tell us numbers are falling someone being dishonest with the true numbers and problems facing Touristy resorts.
Re: Is it time to say bye Thailand?
Brits are the only ones who think Thailand weather is great. But again, weather just about any place is better than that cold rainy rock.
