My return Business Class trip in Feb to MEL was 48000 points and 15,500 baht approx in taxes.

Well it looks like Thai Air is stopping all flights to and from Los Angeles effective 25 Oct 2015. Guess wife will need to start using another Star Alliance carrier to travel to Bangkok, maybe ANA, United or I think EVA Air.

I will be ok for returning in September. RTB IAH LAZ ICH BKK but returning to Honduras will need a new star alliance route. United will work for me. BKK NRT IAH . Star Alliance but less points with TG

News mentions also the rome route being discarded but more routes to the uk and germany,luckily return from seoul from a short visit in oct just before the route is gone,presume wazza you will have to get used to more cheeseburgers on future United routes

United flight is code share with ANA using their aircraft.

Used JAL business before and crap.

Had talk to wife and we will stick with United for travel in U.S. and probably use ANA from U.S. to Bangkok then Thai Smile to Udon. That way she can get mile credits to her Thai Air account (except for Thai Smile) and keep her Silver status for free first baggage on United. Me I will just use United mileage account as nothing credited on Thai air. Do not know a lot about JAL as only flew them once from Japan to Bangkok, and that was almost 10 years ago as a partner for American Airlines.

1 hiccup for me Stantheman is an overnight in bkk first leg and also in Houston. So travel days start to add up as a cost for my mobilisation.

Bkk SIN to Moscow and direct to Houston also an option to look at.

JAL business class was like SIN economy and their lounge was the cheapest fit out with a few bottles of scotch and some seaweed crap for dinner. Mama noodles were there.

ah but SRT generates internal income from renting all that railway right-of-way land as in UD Town and other places.. Their balance sheet for rail operations has always been in the red... Thai Airways doesn't have the capability of generating income like that...

I hate all airports and airlines pretty much equally. Since both my parents have passed away, I don't see any international flights in my future. As far as the rest of my family, they know where I am and if seeing me is important to them, they can come over here.

i stopped reading this review pretty quickly.
The airport train link from the city takes about 45 minutes and does not involve a bus.
Any seasoned traveller or even unseasoned with some common sense, always agrees any fares , be it taxi or tuk tuk BEFORE they embark

Observations for swampy and Thai Air of late with out being over the top critical because there are some good things with the airport and Thai Air.
The BKK swampy airport is Ok for me as I don't shop and rarely eat. Lounges are outdated.
Immigration is hit and miss, when arriving I just walk into the priority lane or the Thai national and old farts lanes. Unfortunately it does not matter how fast you clear immigration the bags are always slow, domestic or International.
Have flown 12 legs with Thai air since the first week of March this year and 2 have been on time with the remainder being late on departure either inbound from a destination or leaving BKK from 10minutes to 60 minutes, 1 being well over an hour or more. That's the biggest problem with Thai air late flights. 2nd is they do not know how to organize boarding, once the announcement starts its every man or woman for themselves.
Just flew Korean Air first time for 2 legs out of BKK and into and out of Busan, now that's a new experience boarding with punters having no idea on seating numbers and also on a mission to see how many bags they can carry on and try and stuff into the overheads.
Generally most airlines have problems these days. When you se the amount of inexperienced tourists travelling and wandering aimlessly around airports its no surprise things are not always OK.

Looking at booking Sydney return next month.
Thai air to Sydney return direct flights 30,500 bht. 30kg bag. Only 1 flight direct
Qantas to Sydney return direct flights
30,200 bht. 30kg bag. Only 1 flight direct.
Air Asia to Sydney via KL adding lots of time. 22,000 bht. I didn’t add all the costs on air Asia for extras, but did add the cheap package 150 USD allowing 20kg and a meal which others supply in fare.
Thai are no more expensive like for like on a comparable airline.

I think their problems are just inefficiency through the whole organization.

Really don’t want a stop over but SIA are good.
Don’t really want or need a stop over. But money talks. Was In singapore last April and May. Lived there for a couple of years. Still good memories as I met my current missus and step daughter there 9 years ago.
