It was never about Europe. Brexit is Britain’s reckoning with itself
Re: It was never about Europe. Brexit is Britain’s reckoning with itself
The forum will go down the tubes if too many of us engage in that manner. It's best to stick to the issues.
The frustration from the EU side seems to be building as Johnson's team just won't cough up any written proposals. Even at this late hour. I currently have more confidence in the EU's version of the negotiations.

I'm just glad that my visit to Ireland and N Ireland will be over before everything possibly gets screwed up at their border after October 31st if things don't get worked out, which I dought.
Re: It was never about Europe. Brexit is Britain’s reckoning with itself
The EU wishes to keep UK shackled to Brussels. To this end there has NEVER BEEN any meaningful discussions. Without the UK's over generous contribution to the EU coffers, the EU will very possible crumble. With Germany facing a recession and possible US Tarrifs on its US exports dumping, coupled with the fact that France is a 'net' beneficiary of the EU (despite typical French grandiose claims to be the EU' 2nd economy, ) due to the absurd Common Agricultural Policy. This is before Fishing is mentioned, with Spanish and French fishing fleets plundering North Sea stocks and Brussels turning a blind eye to illegal Spanish fishing practices and of course ordering UK fishing vessels to ''dump'' over quota fish back into the sea(dead), and people are still amazed that the UK voted to leave !!!!

The frustration from the E U side is not frustration at all !GT93 wrote: ↑September 17, 2019, 1:58 amThe forum will go down the tubes if too many of us engage in that manner. It's best to stick to the issues.

I see it more as blind panic now Bojo is on the job and made it clear to them that give us a fair deal , or we walk .
You dont see any smug faces from Junker , Barnier , or the Irish turd burglar these days . Now its dawned on them that the British government finally mean business .
Said it before , ill say it again for those of you with hearing issues . Right now at this moment in time the E U needs Britain more than Britain needs them .
Now for those of you on the upside down part of the world that may find this distressing . Tough .

Correct.
Anyone who would want to remain under the thumb of the incompetent, unelected, tyrannical bunch called the EU, and allow themselves to be abusively used for their financial strength, should need some psychological evaluation. Reminds me of the handsome man who, even after all the history lessons and warnings from experienced victims, allows the bar girl to bleed him dry.

Some of the EU countries are extremely successful countries with very high standards of living, good health care systems and score very highly when measured how democratic they are. They set the bar for other countries.
The UK and US seem to have issues with how legitimately or fairly their political systems are operating. And so do some of the EU countries and they're often the ones Trump likes.
The UK received a lot of trade advantages being in the EU as do other countries within the EU. The UK is going to be an interesting test case on whether countries are better in or out.

Which countries are they then ? As for trade deals , Something like 45 countries have said they will trade with Britain directly after Brexit , with exactly the same deal as they get with the E U .GT93 wrote: ↑September 17, 2019, 1:45 pmSome of the EU countries are extremely successful countries with very high standards of living, good health care systems and score very highly when measured how democratic they are. The countries that are successful in the EU have achieved that success despite the EU. Many of them fight against the open migration policies and other detrimental ideas that harm autonomy and sovereignty. Those achievers do what's best for their country.
And yes, the UK won't miss a beat in trade. The groundwork has been laid in that regard according to reports, and it looks like in some cases, the trade deals will be better for the UK as an independent nation. One important thing to keep in mind is that everything the UK gains after leaving will ALL be to the benefit of the UK. Nothing wrong with that.
I have noticed that the same group of usual suspects cheering for the failure of Trump and the US are cheering for the failure of BoJo and the UK. Very similar hollow arguments, as well.

Amazon's Lord of the Rings TV show to be filmed in New Zealand
Auckland beats Scotland to NZ$1.3bn contract for what is expected to be the most expensive TV series ever made
https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radi ... ew-zealand
"That will be of little comfort to Scotland, which had been in the frame as a front-runner, with reports that uncertainty over Brexit saw it fall out of favour with Amazon."
Wait till the wee wumman at Holyrood reads that. To her it will be another reason Scotland should break free of the (non EU) Union, paint their gurning faces with blue paint and cry Freedummmmmmmmmmmb!!!!!

The Labour government here even swung employment laws more in favour of people working in this industry. It doesn't seem to have put Amazon off.

Niche market so better milk it. There can't be too many more medieval-themed fantasy drama's after the (inevitable) film adaptation of GoT, no? Jacinda may even get a cameo appearance.
Re: It was never about Europe. Brexit is Britain’s reckoning with itself
It's a moot point whether it's worth winning these productions. Countries around the world throw money at the film and television industries. I don't like to think of my taxes subsidizing all this. Some don't seem to mind.
