Brexit: the post-Brexit circle-jerk kicks off.
After frostily discounting the governments latest proposals a few days back, after 3 hours of 1-on-1 talks with PM Johnson, Irish PM Leo Varadkar sees a “pathway to a possible Brexit deal.”

Meanwhile, Boris has to sit down again with Arlene who's granny knickers must be in a twist after seeing Taoiseach with a smile on his face.

Re: Brexit: the 11th-hour brinkmanship kicks off.
This thread is getting tiresome
The hard truth is that from the start, the EU decided that UK could never leave.
Why?
Because the UK has been paying for the failed EU experiment'
Think about it , Germany has been exporting ( dumping) to all in sundry
France ( laugh) makes so much money from the utterly disgraceful Common Agricultural policy
Someone has to pick up the tab?
Who?
The UK taxpayer.

Re: Brexit: the 11th-hour brinkmanship kicks off.
The EU has suddenly realised that the UK are not ruled by a halfwit Remainer. Boris is telling them for the first time in 2.5 years of them dictating terms Go **** Yourselves. They have just cottoned on to what an affect this will have on the EU economy. Good riddance to German cars and French farmers milking the system.

The British, when they were a big fish, nicked a lot of other territory besides Northern Ireland.

"No time left for Brexit deal before EU summit, says Finnish PM"
https://www.theguardian.com/politics/20 ... finnish-pm
Don't panic... it's only the Finnish PM's token opinion as the EU Council's current, rolling president. The last one to make any Brexit noise was Rutte, the Dutch President, way back in June 2016 when it all kicked off. Everyone else in the interim has been pretty schtoom on the whole affair.
"The EU has rejected the UK’s proposal of a dual customs system at Northern Ireland’s ports and airport that would involve tracking the destination of all goods entering from Great Britain and applying differential treatment depending on their final destination. ..."
When you can count NI's ports and international airport on one hand, why has the EU balked at this simple solution in lieu of the already thrice unacceptable backstop?
"Barnier has pushed the UK to accept a model closer to a Northern Ireland-only backstop with Northern Ireland staying in the EU’s single market for goods. It would not be part of the EU’s customs territory but the bloc’s full customs code would be enforced in the Irish Sea, a move that risks provoking the Democratic Unionist party. ..."
Ah, yes. Northern Ireland is the EU's 'anchor baby'. Barnier's fear of losing credibility as the EU's negotiator is running roughshod over practicality and recent UK concessions. He knows the backstop means the DUP walks away and the non-elected Johnson takes another big, dry one up the ort.

Tam
Hillary Benn's absolute betrayal of his fathers beliefs are appalling. But what the halfwit has forgotten is that while we are still in the EU, EU laws have precedence over UK laws. So all the wee Marxists can jump up and celebrate that they have passed a law in the UK House of Commons that they believe that it will stop Brexit. Beep, Beep, WRONG!!!. While we are a member state the overruling law is the EU Law that categorically states if no agreement has been reached after 2 years (Article 50, that was voted for by over 400 UK MP's) then the Country leaving, leaves without a deal and reverts to WTO rules. Their law is ratified by all member states and passed by the ECJ. Why do you think Boris is laughing at them trying to win through the UK courts. 16 days to go.
Re: Brexit: the 11th-hour brinkmanship kicks off.

At the last minute the EU will cave in on a deal that they don't like but that is better than no deal at all.
