44000 knife crimes includes thousands of idiots stopped and searched by the cops. 132 deaths in 9 months is hardly one an hour, still very unacceptable but amounts to about 3 a week on average way less than the good old USofA and its mass shootings almost every week (also very unacceptable). In truth we had this same scenario before in the UK, then the law for Stop and Search was enacted and crime including Knife crime decreased, however in this wonderful enlightened age and Governments bowing to pressure from groups affected by the stop and search laws decreased the effectiveness of the law and made it almost impossible for officers to carry out the job .
A mere complaint now on Racial, Ethnic grounds means that investigation into the offence etc, , officers are fed up with having their hands tied while offenders saunter around seemingly freely..

In some respects the rise of the knife crime is a reflection on the strict gun laws, in days of yore the shiv ( I believe it was called ) was a weapon of choice of the lads as it were , guns were a no no , as then the majority of the police were not armed in fact today the average Police officer on the streets is also not armed . Having said that Violent crime is on the rise due I feel in part to the lax sentences handed out and almost zero deterrent . It seems to be the same across the Western World all the Governments bowing down to the PC attitude.

I agree. While there are plenty of things in Thailand which could be better, one good thing is certainty of sentencing. When you're sentenced to five years, you do five years. No parole, no early release. And when you come out, you're apologetic.

Actually, parole is something I never really understood. Parole is based on good behavior while you're incarcerated. But it's easy to behave in prison where you're constantly being monitored by some combination of electronics and humans. The real issue is how you behave when you're not in prison, and we already know the answer to that. It's how you behaved when you weren't in prison that got you there in the first place.
