What's the best small dog to get Dad?

Our much loved dog Bokey died a year ago, and we want to get a small dog to keep dad (and us) company. What breed is active, fun, doesn't bark much, and doesn't have long hair? Basically, I'd like a shitzhu with short hair. Any suggestions? And where do I get it and for how much?

I was never a small dog person but fell in love with a Chihuahua my missus bought home. He became my dog.
Energetic, active, smart and intelligent, loyal. 2.5 kgs of energy.
He thought he was bigger than he was and liked to run with the bigger dogs we had.
Once socialized with the house and his surroundings he was completely at ease and did not challenge others.
Was the only dog allowed in the house.
Bought him where others say not to buy from, near the markets at Udon Town. Vet checked immediately and all good.

Jack is 2 yrs old ..Jill.just under 1 .. shes a very small.JR as was from a big and slightly oremature litter ..jack.origibates from the Uk .

a miniature pinscher was the most easy dog we have ever had , only noisy when needed ,short hair ,no hair loss ..
we bought one at the evening market @ 900 baht , i think now they will be around 1.500 baht...
we never buy male dogs as they piss against everything and make your environment smell like ...dog piss
and i surely would not advice a jack russell , very nervous and noisy dogs ...they will make you nuts ...

Agree about male dogs pissing but Jack.is fine he does it outside ..need a reasonabke size harden fir sure ..
My 2 JRs arent nervous ..only noisey when a stray opps upmat yhe gate or a sttanger is lurking in the bushes.

As for making you nuts .. .. that could explain a few things includong my tendancy to comsume too.much beer

To.the op.. try a rabbit then at least if it diesnt work.out you can eat it .. hamsters make great pets but finding a leash for walki g is not easy
