Sorry Pratt. Did I touch a nerve there. Who mentioned your Prime Minister, has he come back from holiday while his Country burns. Please do not take small parts of a statement and post out of context. Please read the whole post.

"Hazard reduction burns that are only two years old, we're seeing these fires on these bad days just skip straight through it," he said.

"We're only seeing effective amelioration on fire spread through hazard reduction areas that have been done so in the last 12 months."

So the guy is admitting that you have to do preventative burns every year. Even Somchai Flip Flop who cultivates rice in Thailand could have told him that. How much undergrowth can grow in 2 years.

You clearly have NFI.

You and Morrison make a likely pair.

And Khun Flip Flop looks like Einstein in comparison.

Sorry Pratt
I have NFI about how much undergrowth can grow in 2 years?? A 5 year old has a better grip on this than you.
Morrison is another failure in a long line of halfwit Aussie politicians who Australians seem to think will sort out the problems that Australia has, Duhhh and you dare criticize Boris.
Khun Flip Flop looks like Einstein in comparison to what, an Australian. Probably agree with that one.

Once again, is it not the individual state and other local government departments that needs to assess and address any need for 'hazard reduction burns' and not the federal government? Even DJT pointed his fat, stubby at California for not raking the forest floors like the Finnish nation does.

Maybe the federal government needs to assess the real need for a non-volunteer fire brigade that rake in the cool season and put out the smaller fires in the hot season. That or mandate that these states buy better equipment and train these volunteers on proper use. Maybe volunteer fire departments need to have the funds to invest in station-based support teams that replenish and resupply and repair the equipment while the trained, front-line firefighters get a proper stand-down and rest between call out. Yes. it's nice to pay the volunteers 6 thousand bucks to compensate for loss of earnings from their regular jobs as they fight fires for days in end but maybe they need better tools and a better staffing structure to start with?

This is the area that has been burnt out this bushfire season (if located in Scotland) - as of 3 days ago:

https://www.theguardian.com/australia-n ... 1992187495

So please tell us how to do controlled burns over 107,000 square kilometres, and every year at that. Of course this doesn't include areas that have not been subjected to fires this year.

There have been numerous people, who know what they are talkiing about, come out in Oz recently to talk about the science and practicalities of controlled burns.

They have a clue - you have NFI.

There's a rather good piece on the BBC about the Australian fires and particularly the considered effect that climate change has on the root causes.

I myself have never been to Australia.

Another good read below. Touches on why the controlled burn policies in place didn't increase with the rising fire risk.

I have enough connected brain cells to know that you do not have to control burn 107,000. sq kilometers but selected areas to prevent the spread of fire to that amount of area. There have also been many people who know what they are talking about who have hammered the tree hugging environmentalists who have prevented the necessary preventative measures.
According to them and you I assume every time it gets a tad warm Australia will go up in flames because you dig up your Country, sell it to China who then burn it and cause climate change and there is nothing we can do about it. And you say I have NFI!

...the use of preventive measures known as “hazard reduction”, in which controlled burns are carried out during the winter to reduce the amount of material available to ignite when temperatures rise. Some Australians grumble, without much evidence, that “greenies” worried about plants and wildlife have been holding this practice back.
Op cit.

The same argument as we saw in Blighty when the Somerset Levels flooded. People have to understand that we need to create an environment where humans and wildlife can live - it's a balance.

For thousands of years, the Indigenous people of Australia set fire to the land.
Long before Australia was invaded and colonised by Europeans, fire management techniques - known as "cultural burns" - were being practised.
The cool-burning, knee-high blazes were designed to happen continuously and across the landscape.
The fires burn up fuel like kindling and leaf detritus, meaning a natural bushfire has less to devour.
Since Australia's fire crisis began last year, calls for better reintegration of this technique have grown louder. But it should have happened sooner, argues one Aboriginal knowledge expert.
"The bush needs to burn," says Shannon Foster.
She's a knowledge keeper for the D'harawal people - relaying information passed on by her elders - and an Aboriginal Knowledge lecturer at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS). I suppose she has NFI either.

She has some idea - you on the other hand have NFI. [-(

You clearly didn't read the rest of the article; or read it but didn't understand it; or understood it but decided to be very selective in which part you quoted. :-k

2 years ago, the town of Paradise in California was destroyed by fire. The town had extensive evacuation plans in place which failed. The fire spread extremely quickly and the evacuation roads were too narrow to cope with the volume of traffic when the whole town needed to flee. 87 people died as a result.

They're still arguing over whose fault it is rather than taking corrective action. Americans have always loved the sound of their own voices in such circumstances. I never thought Australians would suffer from the same disease.

Simple legislation like banning 2-car and 3-car families from living in the forests?
