Still no mention of Myanmar or Laos, it seems impossible when you consider the number of Chinese working in both.
Because those two Countries and Cambodia do not test for the virus, pretty soon they will admit to thousands of cases of viral pneumonia same as Thailand but miniscule numbers of COVID-19, same as? Yip you guessed it first time.

Facebook article from an American Cristina Higgins in Lockdown in Lombardy Italy.
This could explain why there is a high rate of fatalities in Italy.
It could end up in some countries where the ones who have the money to pay for ICU treatment will survive.

I am writing to you from Bergamo, Italy, at the heart of the coronavirus crisis. The news media in the US has not captured the severity of what is happening here. I am writing this post because each of you, today, not the government, not the school district, not the mayor, each individual citizen has the chance, today to take actions that will deter the Italian situation from becoming your own country’s reality. The only way to stop this virus is to limit contagion. And the only way to limit contagion is for millions of people to change their behavior today.

If you are in Europe or the US you are weeks away from where we are today in Italy.

I can hear you now. “It’s just a flu. It only affects old people with preconditions”

There are 2 reasons why Coronavirus has brought Italy to it’s knees. First it is a flu is devastating when people get really sick they need weeks of ICU – and, second, because of how fast and effectively it spreads. There is 2 week incubation period and many who have it never show symptoms.

When Prime Minister Conte announced last night that the entire country, 60 million people, would go on lock down, the line that struck me most was “there is no more time.” Because to be clear, this national lock down, is a hail mary. What he means is that if the numbers of contagion do not start to go down, the system, Italy, will collapse.

Why? Today the ICUs in Lombardy are at capacity – more than capacity. They have begun to put ICU units in the hallways. If the numbers do not go down, the growth rate of contagion tells us that there will be thousands of people who in a matter of a week? two weeks? who will need care. What will happen when there are 100, or a 1000 people who need the hospital and only a few ICU places left?

On Monday a doctor wrote in the paper that they have begun to have to decide who lives and who dies when the patients show up in the emergency room, like what is done in war. This will only get worse.

There are a finite number of drs, nurses, medical staff and they are getting the virus. They have also been working non-stop, non-stop for days and days. What happens when the drs, nurses and medical staff are simply not able to care for the patients, when they are not there?

And finally for those who say that this is just something that happens to old people, starting yesterday the hospitals are reporting that younger and younger patients – 40, 45, 18, are coming in for treatment.

You have a chance to make a difference and stop the spread in your country. Push for the entire office to work at home today, cancel birthday parties, and other gatherings, stay home as much as you can. If you have a fever, any fever, stay home. Push for school closures, now. Anything you can do to stop the spread, because it is spreading in your communities – there is a two week incubation period – and if you do these things now you can buy your medical system time.

And for those who say it is not possible to close the schools, and do all these other things, locking down Italy was beyond anyone’s imagination a week ago.

Soon you will not have a choice, so do what you can now.

Please share.

This is what I have been saying for the last 3 months yet Canada still has open borders, we will pay the price. The good news is our idiot P.M. that did not act on this at the beginning is self isolating because they think his wife has the virus and is being tested. Maybe that will wake him up.

England had a individual once who tried to stop nature and failed, the same logic can be applied to this Virus, being what it is, no man can stop it no matter how hard you try . You can attempt to lessen its impact, treat the symptoms, assist the needy , offer advice to lessen contagion but STOP it .no..no..no.
So for all those who think their government has not done enough, look in the mirror have you done enough to ensure your safety , not going out, not partying with others, being careful about where you go and what you do. If the answer to any of those things is NO, then part of the problem is YOU !!

I have stocked up on supplies, did so 2 months ago, do not go to malls or crowded places and don't mix with other people other than my wife. I don't shop until i really need to. First thing I do when i get home is wash my hands and change my clothes so I would say I am doing my part. Many countries have restricted travel and or closed their borders which is smart. I will say it again, the Canadian government has failed us. It is up to them to make these things happen, private individuals can not close borders or quarantine people. Harsh measures to be sure but the price we are about to pay will make people wish they were taken. I predict many many people will die and possibly a world financial crisis like we have never seen before.

If a Country went into Total Lock Down for a period of 15- 21 days and I mean every isolation of ever city, people staying inside their household, all schools, shopping mall & businesses closed and yes every airport closed (in & out), then where would the virus be after say 15-21 days.

If the virus only has a 7-10 day infectious period from human to human (or max 14 days) when within the human body and if it can only live outside the body some a matter of days? , then where would the Host be at 15-21 days

I would assume, the worst would be over for that Country

The World needs to take a Holiday for a Month and then "Reboot"

Vincemunday.
Absolutely agree with the sentiment of your new post/thread. But for me there are a few misguided/
misunderstood bits of advice. Sure self quarantine to prevent the spread, but leave a symptom like viral pneumonia for a week and you probably will be meeting your maker. Antibiotics will not cure the virus but will help with the illness's that the virus causes. I for one will be banging down tablets at the first sign of the symptoms of the virus to try and combat the affects of the virus. Keep the information flow coming, it will help many people. Please understand my reasons for this post, non critical in the slightest.

Please note the Thai number to call if you have the virus is 1422

- Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Stay at home advice
COVID-19 is a new illness that can affect your lungs and airways. It's caused by a virus called coronavirus.

These pages are for the public. There is coronavirus information for health professionals on the NHS England website.

Stay at home if you have coronavirus symptoms

Stay at home for 7 days if you have either:

a high temperature – you feel hot to touch on your chest or back
a new, continuous cough – this means you've started coughing repeatedly
Do not go to a GP surgery, pharmacy or hospital.

You do not need to contact 1422 to tell them you're staying at home.

Testing for coronavirus is not needed if you're staying at home.

Read our advice about staying at home.

Urgent advice: Use the 1422 coronavirus service if:
you feel you cannot cope with your symptoms at home
your condition gets worse
your symptoms do not get better after 7 days
Use the 1422 coronavirus service
How coronavirus is spread

Because it's a new illness, we do not know exactly how coronavirus spreads from person to person.

Similar viruses are spread in cough droplets.

It's very unlikely it can be spread through things like packages or food.

How to avoid catching or spreading coronavirus

Do
wash your hands with soap and water often – do this for at least 20 seconds
always wash your hands when you get home or into work
use hand sanitiser gel if soap and water are not available
cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when you cough or sneeze
put used tissues in the bin immediately and wash your hands afterwards
try to avoid close contact with people who are unwell
Don't
do not touch your eyes, nose or mouth if your hands are not clean

Travel advice

There are some countries and areas where there's a higher chance of coming into contact with someone with coronavirus.

If you're planning to travel abroad and are concerned about coronavirus, see advice for travellers on GOV.UK.

Treatment for coronavirus

There is currently no specific treatment for coronavirus.

Antibiotics do not help, as they do not work against viruses.

Treatment aims to relieve the symptoms while your body fights the illness.

You'll need to stay in isolation, away from other people, until you have recovered.
Vince, do you have a link to that local health advice you posted? The bit that referenced the local Covid-19 reporting hotline and when to call it or otherwise?

Good, thanks. Although it's good forum practice to list citations, in these times of increased awareness of our fellow members sensitivities or different concerns, I think it is a good idea to post citations whenever we can. This helps members with their further research and goes towards eliminating the not quite factual or more anecdotal stuff.

WRT the Reuters article:

"Cambodia, which recorded two new cases of the virus on a 49-year-old Canadian teacher and a 33-year-old Belgian man on Friday, hasn’t banned travellers from China, the epicentre of the coronavirus outbreak."

Looks like more of DPM Anutin's 'dirty foreigners' are afoot. Since the WHO has just declared Europe as the new epicenter, maybe the China bashing will diminish. Maybe not.

With the number of infections standing at 75 as of yesterday, the Public Health Ministry insisted that the country has yet to enter Stage 3. However, there is no room for complacency. The government's lack of proactive testing methods along with lax quarantine and monitoring measures means that no one knows how high the number of undetected cases could actually be.
