Zid,
I'm in the same boat as you.
I got two little kids here.
But in another post, I noted that my affairs are in order if the worst happens.
Also, affairs should be in order anyway, coz ya never know when you're gunna get hit by a truck or something else.
But if you wrap yourself in cotton wool all your life, is that a life?
I just believe in fate.
If Corona Virus is gunna get ya, it's gunna get ya, no matter what precautions you put in place.
Even since it has arrived, the medical fraternity have learned a lot more about treating it, even before a vaccine, (if possible), so the odds of dying are even a lot less now than a couple of months ago.
And the next few months roll by, they will learn even more.
What will be, will be.
IMHO, (only).

I'm with you and Glalt
I only wish we'd started with the traditional ways of handling the pandemic and we could have adjusted as the situation worsened instead we started at "all in" and now if any city, state or country tries to "open" at the first sign of new cases its panic stations lock down lock down, hide, run, really. where?

The death rate has stayed the same , so far no specific therapies have worked . Even when they think this or that treatment works it turns out not to work on other patients. Trials of many drugs are on going .
It kills nearly 50% of over 75s ,,15%of over 65s. If it turns out no therapies work and it becomes endemic in 5 years from now there will be very few survivors past the age of 60..as for a vaccine ,Corona is part of the common cold family and they have been working on that for decades.
As for the economy ,it will get battered but it will live, unlike a lot of people over 60.
Our business has lost 50% of the income , not good . But 100% of our customers are still alive and well.. that's most important to us. And I make no apologies about it . Anyone wanting to risk their lives is up to them ,but I'm not going to risk people's lives just for a buck or two..
The question of if lockdowns work is stupid ,the virus has not been around long enough .what we can tell is Brazil didn't lock down and ain't they doing well, good news is America is experimenting on their population by easing the lockdown so we will see one way or the other in the next 6 weeks .

100% with you papa.
We get control and then rebuild our economy without having to deal with the grief of several million dead.

in your opinion if we continue to close the economy or shut down if we have another outbreak, how long can it survive.
imho inflation and the devaluation of our assets are going to destroy us, when or if your pies are costing you three times as much to make how are the customers going to be able to afford to buy.
Governments globally don't have any money in the end they have to get it from us probably by taxation
The US have stimulus spending in the trillions.
Re: The lack of evidence lockdowns actually worked is ...
Many people will make a big effort to isolate while they think coming out is dangerous. Risks from the virus need to be mitigated to get the economy kicking along well.

So, Noosard if you researched the question of how many Medical Personel have died due to Covid, and you dont believe it Why woud you ask on this fiorum for a REAL number?
I really dont think you would get a valid number, from a bunch of old, ______ Like us

There are 7.8 billion people in the world, average age is maybe 60 so 13,000.000 die every year. We add unmanaged COVID to that it will increase more than 10%.
You seriously see a 10% increase in the death rate and that is OK?

Where did I say any of that drivel
I said if true the figures of other deaths were an eye opener
perhaps you should actually read what people are saying rather than trying to score your unsuccessful "I know everything routine", frankly your becoming boring just another time waster.

Whistler,
Where did you pull that number from??????
Google says 29.6

It's not like you to spread mis-information.

Re: The lack of evidence lockdowns actually worked is ...
I think isolation was a huge mistake. That will cause a second wave in those who have not developed natural antibodies from being exposed. I just read an article that stated the death rate is .26 percent. Yes, point 26 percent. I don't know where these wildly inflated numbers come from. How many of the feeble and weak would have died without the virus? People die, that's a part of living.
Re: The lack of evidence lockdowns actually worked is ...
I asked out of interest because medical staff dont tend to be sickly
and the number of medical staff who have died will be in the tens of thousands
You came back with Googel
So I googled it
and if you read what was the google answers,
you might understand there is no known answer
just guesses like lots of predictions on how the lockdown is effecting the body count
Re: The lack of evidence lockdowns actually worked is ...
Sorry Glalt
These are inconvenient facts, and will spoil the narrative
Please do not post anymore or beside being shouted down you will be sent to bed with no supper.

Our bodies are amazing machines, but, they do wear out and death follows.

You actually raise an interesting point.
I'm assuming, (and guessing), that all medical staff have contracted the virus.
It would be interesting to know how many have immunity, have suffered second wave s, not affected at all etc.
I think they would be the perfect group to study for all these types of answers.

Re: The lack of evidence lockdowns actually worked is ...
BTW known deaths to known cases it is 370k out of 6m
so approx 6%
but the unknown cases reportedly up to 10 times
and not confirmed deaths reportedly up to 30% more
so guess .8%
Now this just throws out real numbers
Like how long is a piece of string

Re: The lack of evidence lockdowns actually worked is ...
Exactly noosey ,nobody knows how many people have had it or how many have died from it . Average death rate in populations stay fairly constant so the easiest way would be to count the death rate increase. But still don't Tel you how many have been infected ,that can only be worked out by testing .
But let's get back to the thread , lockdowns have proven to work , there not infalable as we see in China ,but they work to save lives .we will just have to wait and see what happens to America when they open up .
