America coming apart at the seams?
Re: America coming apart at the seams?
When I've been to protests and chatted to other protesters I've been amazed at the differences in reasoning that resulted in people coming out to the protest. You miss a lot if you lump all protesters together.
A good president should be trying to dial down the current trouble.

Re: America coming apart at the seams?
I'm shocked too RLT! This reminds me of a trick my father used to play on me when I was young, and people still do it for a joke where I grew up. You come up behind somebody and brace their arm behind their back or pick them up by the ear and say to them "say uncle"! When they finally submit due to the horrific pain and say "uncle", then you let them go. It was a big mistake when these people "took the knee". Those who kowtowed didn't do it in solidarity with the protesters, but they did it to say "uncle", and you will never defeat a bully by submitting to their torture. It was a sign of weakness and the bully will be back again tomorrow with the same trick, and the next time the pain will be more intense!

Colossians 2:8-10...See to it that no one takes you captive through philosophy and empty deception, which are based on human tradition and the spiritual forces of the world rather than on Christ. For in HIM dwells all the fullness of the GODHEAD bodily; and you are complete in HIM, who is the head of all principality and power.

I am shocked also, the crowd cheering them, then the crowd behaved themselves, continued with a peaceful protest, no looting, no vandalism and no violence.
What on earth were they all thinking.

Bullying people is good? inflicting a lot of pain on somebody for no reason is good?semperfiguy wrote: ↑June 2, 2020, 2:49 pm

I think you're misinterpreting his post, I believe he's saying not to give in to bullies, well that's how I read itWhistler wrote: ↑June 2, 2020, 3:33 pmBullying people is good? inflicting a lot of pain on somebody for no reason is good?semperfiguy wrote: ↑June 2, 2020, 2:49 pm

Re: America coming apart at the seams?
So coming up behind somebody and assaulting them makes them the bully? So the kids a bully, but the father was the innocent guy.cjd01 wrote: ↑June 2, 2020, 3:36 pmI think you're misinterpreting his post, I believe he's saying not to give in to bullies, well that's how I read itWhistler wrote: ↑June 2, 2020, 3:33 pmBullying people is good? inflicting a lot of pain on somebody for no reason is good?semperfiguy wrote: ↑June 2, 2020, 2:49 pm

Sorry it didn't pick up that subtlety, silly me.
I know damn well what would happen if anybody tried that on me, and I assure you they would never ever dream of doing it again.

I think you're taking the P--- or deliberately not reading his last sentences where he refers to the coming up behind etc with

Thanks Whistler, you just made my point. In my analogy the bully is the father or anyone else who would play such a painful trick on anyone else. The protesters, rioters and looters are obviously being the bullies, and according to you, you wouldn't let them get away with it. Good on you! That's my point!!!!

Semp,
I remember a senior Episcopalian guy visiting Australia from New York. He said too many people take refuge in claiming to be Christian when in fact they hide their true selves by twisting the bible to suit their prejudices.
By your posts, he obviously knew you.
What do you think about Trump's illegal use of force to disperse a peaceful protest, not a bully????????

Re: America coming apart at the seams?
You wouldn't recognize a peaceful protest if it bit you in the butt. How many secret service and police were injured by those peaceful protesters? I'm very surprised that those violent ones were not shot.Whistler wrote: ↑June 2, 2020, 4:08 pmSemp,

That night, in front of the White House, in Lafayette Square, zero, none, nada. It was a peaceful and completely legal protest, it did not violate the curfew and was not blocking streets
