No, no. It's Murcan oil that's worthless. Everybody else's stuff is OK.

Best being part of this forum by placing the intellectual challenged on foes list. A lot less post to read and a great time saver.

5 years ago 36.4 Bhat per USD
Today 31 down 15%
Inflation since 2015 20%

Just based on exchange rate and not inflation
72800 exchange say a monthly Pension of $2000USD year 2015
62000 exchange say a monthly pension of $2000USD year 2020

I know of many Expats would like an extra almost 16000 ($516) baht a month in their pocket

-15%(exchange) Plus -20% (inflation)= 35%

OR if you have an extra $516 a month laying around maybe you could slide it this way. my bank details upon request

The US Dollar is in the Hole.

No arguments here Doo Doo but most people would say a 62K income every month is still a highly livable sum in the LOS if you are not out chasing young cats most nights. 73K that will give you what? an extra 3/4 nights doing woopee.

It's s long while since I visited Cambodia, is the Dollar still the currency of choice? Maybe it's now the Yuan or Bht.

First visit to Thailand 2002/2003 and I was getting 42.5 baht to the dollar. Those days are over hence we are in a different range.

Yes USD still rules in Cambodia (Phnom Penh), or it did when I was last there in February 2020, for a short trip. Even ATM's dispense nice clean USD notes, at least down along the Riverside area, they do

Still useful in some places then. When I visited I was advised to take a wad of Dollars as there were very few ATM's.

The US $ is declining against every major currency in the world, on track to be equivalent to the Aussie $. It seems individuals are referencing to what it is trading against the Thai baht, need to look at what it's doing against the other major currencies. Food prices at grocery stores and restaurants are getting stupid here.

This is the reality of where the USD to Thai Baht has been over the last near 15 Years. See Graph at the end

Whether the USD is "In Decline" is debatable, as currency exchange rates, (one to another) have been moving all over the palace against one another for the past 30 plus years and move for many different reasons, much of it currency speculation. I would refer to it Less in Demand or Losing its Market Share in the Financial Markets, rather than Decline.

There was a time when the Currencies of many countries were not recognized for trading purpose or listed exchange rates and considered to volatile due to that countries fledgling/emerging economy, being viewed as took weak or risky. The World's recognized major currencies, became Default currencies, for many countries, thus creating the demand for the Greenback and Others, in a hard currency form, for stockpiling as Reserves.

This changed as, the economies of other countries strengthened over time, so did the recognition of their respective currencies, to an extent that many individual country currencies could stand on their own feet, when it came to trading and stability of their respective exchange rates, being viewed with a lesser risk. The relevance of the Default currencies such as the USD, the GBP, the JYN, the CHF, simply lost some of their importance and so the demands for them. Been going on for near 25-30 years, maybe more.

Equally the Financial/Stock Markets, moved from just buying selling Shares, to buying/selling/trading, in anything that could turn a Profit for them, i.e. Futures, Bonds, Derivatives, Currencies etc. They buy and sell the house, car, kitchen sink, dog cat and the Wife these days, which in my view just adds to further speculation in the currency exchange market, where need and the greed to trade in currencies, has become a norm. Then along came the other forms of currency (ways to move money), such as the Crypto currencies.

All of this lessening the real worth of Counties currency as is being portrayed on the Exchange Rate Market. I am not sure what the Currency Exchange Rate Market actually signifies or indicates these days, given some currencies are free-floating and some are not and some are even pegged/constrained. :-k

For sure, the demand for the Greenback has wavered, as it has will other major currencies and it will continue to waver until eventually the demand for trading in these hard currencies, disappears and exchange rates themselves become less relevant. i.e. when Crypto Currencies start to rule the World. When that day comes it wont worry me, because I wont be able to read the market exchange rates from timber box in the ground.

As to the USD vs the Baht, being around the 31 TB mark, looks like a medium average for the past 15 years, if one draws lines at 30-32.
