U.K. going on lockdown, USA stopping restricting movement. WTF
Re: U.K. going on lockdown, USA stopping restricting movement. WTF
England's pandemic torment deepens.
Mayor Andy Burnham wanted 65 million quid restitution for Tier 3 lockdown compliance in Greater Manchester. Apparently when negotiations started, they wanted 90 million.
The government said they could have 60 million which they claim was in line with what they'd agreed with the various councils of NW and NE of England for their Tier 3 lockdown restitution.
Burnham said no, demanded 5 million more, lost and is left with only the 22 million they were going to get anyway for their participation in track/trace or whatever it's called. Westminster was initially saying that the 60 million was still on the table. A more recent statement suggests only that it "may" still be available. Hard ball time.
Meanwhile, rather than a circuit breaker, Ireland has thrown the main breaker with a 6-week Tier 3 style lock down. That's the first EU member state to revert to the bad old days of last April. This decision comes only two weeks after their own health advisors' recommendation for a four week circuit breaker was rejected by the government. Sounds similar to Johnson ignoring his SAGE advisors about 3 weeks ago and now slapping Tier 3 notices left right and center.
North of the border, the First Minister says she won't have local city and county councils squabbling for money in order to comply with any lockdown or making up their own rules. She's the Obergruppenführer in this regard.

Regrettably the USA death numbers are starting to trend up following the infection numbers.
The highest number in 8 weeks. So running at about ½ the average maximum
The U.K. has an uptick in deaths though it’s at 1/5 max, even though the infection rate has jumped to double the previous maximum so a big jump in mortality in the next month will not be surprising.

Yesterday’s correct numbers
Also showing the data that tRump claims is showing that the USA is rounding the curve!
The curve must be like the magic roundabout and he doesn’t know how to exit.

With more of little England slipping into Tier 2 this weekend, wee Scotland's Obergrüpenfuhrer has announced her master plan of a 5-tier system for implementation after the tattie holidays.
TBH, considering the distances involved, I don't see the scientific value of having one area in Tier 3 while maybe just eleven miles away, there are lower or no restrictions. It plays to the simplistic but ignorant notions that the coronavirus is GPS-enabled. The only way these divisions can be effective is if people can be trusted to observe the restrictions. Ain't going to happen.
Much airtime has been given to pubs and gyms as critical to society. When you consider that only 45% of the nation's adults are regular pub-goers and less than 12% of the nation's adults regularly attend a gym, their airtime is rather disproportionate IMHO.
The only country that has effectively nailed the community transmission issue has been China. That meant the strict enforcement of stay at home rules and rigid control of people movement that only a draconian, one-party state can do. I guess our hard-fought societal and political freedoms mean we're doomed.

Little North Dakota is leading the U.S.A. in covid cases today or was that yesterday. You can expect that number to rise with the onset of freezing weather.
We make our world significant by the courage of our questions and by the depths of our answers.

LaLa
North Dakota YESTERDAY has only 39,130 cases Total While California as 916,000 cases which is Leading the USA
And ambient temperature has not been proven associated with the amount of Covid casrs. If that were the case the summer time temps should have reduced the caes and instead they rose

The USA is rounding the curve???
A country that really has got lowering cases and deaths with a vastly larger population and vastly poorer health service

Is the curve that tRump is rounding the on ramp to the expressway?
The USA has just managed the highest number of infections so far.
Even the deaths are above the median.

Doodoo's Oct 28 info in quotes, overlaid with 2019 population:
"North Dakota YESTERDAY has only 39,130 cases (population 762,000) Total While California as 916,000 cases (40 million population) which is Leading the USA."
North Dakota: 1 in 19.45 people has Covid.
California: 1 in 43.67 people has Covid.
Seems North Dakota has twice the rate of infection of California, per capita. Or percentage, or any way you want to explain it. Just using Doodoo's data.

AndI was just responding to LaLa's comment

Nothing to do with "per capita"
And it aint my Data its "https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/"

You do have to ask why the UK has gone into "free fall" with its new case numbers, and Germany as well

That's one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind.
Re: U.K. going on lockdown, USA stopping restricting movement. WTF
^ Can't speak for Germany but if UK gyms that boast maybe 12% of the population as customers and bars and pubs that cater to another paltry 23% can get such disproportionate airtime about how essential they are to British society, then maybe there IS an overwhelming amount of younger people who still think that it's just the flu and only old people will die?
