The scotch egg is actually English. The first ones were sold in Fortnum and mason about 1735.
Anyway will be able to visit soon and try this so called scotch pie and give it my rates on trip advisor
Do we have to book tables in advance now?

"Top tip for today , if the pie has a burger consistency then put the pie in a burger bun"
You are not far of the mark Dean. Many a quick lunch scoff while working has been a Greggs Scotch Pie in a buttered morning roll. Surprisingly good with a wee dash off broon sauce. The teuchters can keep their 'rowies'

"It is interesting that Time Out Edinburgh recently ranked all Greggs baked products and the Scotch pie was recently ranked second from bottom. This is perhaps not surprising when Gregg's seem to inexplicably neglect our favourite pastry product. Pie fans be rest assured, we will continue to give Greggs abuse about this as much as we can."

Ah dear Tam
Just had a look at the league table you provided a link to and its hardly apples for apples is it. Maybe trying to compare Grants canned haggis or McSweens perfection to Faggots or Jellied Eels would be the same. Might a bit more limp wristed than you as I dont tend to spend a long time 'hinging aboot' the ironing board. Considering that the Edinburgh Time Out is produced for the Dahlings and Luvvies of the going out crowd its hardly surprising they do not rate a Greggs pie as highly as smelly fish eggs and force fed goose livers.

Deary me Tam
If wee Nippy Sturgeon reads that they are "English" pies she will have an absolute melt down as a great percentage of her flock eat the same pies. What's next boycott Greggs.
Incidentally I dont hate anybody, I just dislike some people more than others.

Nae bad ava. Ordered Friday morning, delivered Monday morning so well within the traditional 13-day use-by date..dunroaming wrote: ↑February 1, 2021, 12:10 pmSo feedback how do they taste, and still 500 Cal's for one or slimming version's
Popped the first bag and the smell was just right; memories of "Granny's heilan' hame" flooded my senses. Selected two for the 'nude' and 'toasted' test versions but a wee crusty bit fell off so that was the first nibble... spot on. Just demolished them with some unsalted butter (imported, not the sweetened local stuff). Nice and greasy, not too salty and delightfully chewy. Tomorrow I will have them with Rose's Lime marmalade, the way that Mrs tam likes 'em.
Rating 4.5 out of 5: Pretty much the same as the "perfect" ones I used to make years ago in Houston. The teuchter in Songkhla that makes these certainly knows his rowies.

Oooohh. I missed that one Alex. A Scottish pie double burger with Lorne sausage. That's awesome.AlexO wrote: ↑January 30, 2021, 8:56 amLard is not easy to work with , come the hot season its likely to be impossible . so anyway just got another kg of lamb out and going for the third recipe ,pastry seems to be 95% so the filling needs to be perfected . Top tip for today , if the pie has a burger consistency then put the pie in a burger bun.
