Extremely busy at the AP/RR junction (where the lights always work) this morning .. tailbacks from 7am.

I have to visit the post office and get doggie snacks this morning but will leave it until the dust settles.

I believe the anual Chinese New Year shindig at Tungsrimeaung has been cancelled this year so maybe traffic not too back around that area.

I find here whenever the traffic lights cease working, the best option is to execute a swift left turn ( no lights required ) down a suitable soi and navigate a more complicated route home.
In fact my suggestion to always navigate a route from A to B using perhaps a longer route but always managing a left turn at the lights does in fact speed up my journeys considerably, you just have to use common-sense and knowledge of the towns roads. .

Typical, Mrs N wanted to go to her favourite vendor on Nittayo Road.
Luckily all traffic lights seem to be working & everything is moving as well as usual.
I notice the resurfacing on Pracha Santi Road has reached the end now so wonder if that was something to do with the lights malfunction

Total contrast on the amount of traffic at Udons most cultural intersection .. very quiet this morning as today is the official government appointed holiday for Chinese New Year so i believe schools are closed as are many businesses.

Still no sign of the planned junction makeover starting ... anytime now according to the duck noodle man and his dog.

^ If it's the same specialists that are tasked with the East ring road widening, maybe after Songkran? They got off to a flying start on the bit opposite Romyen last month but since they have extended their median grading all the way north of Global, all we see is a dangerous narrowing of the existing usable road surface. Southbound opposite Romyen is dangerous at peak traffic as it's down to a single lane. Most of the labor are now involved with draining the long ponds that resulted from the recent rainy spell.

New sign on HWY2 at the ring road intersection heading from Khon Kaen direction.
I can also see the newly installed cameras on the gantries.

Funnily enough there’s the usual police stop just on the ring road again so I wonder if you jump the lights you get a PAYGO fine & a letter in the post in a couple of weeks

Orange pick up and road men with high visibility jackets n hard hats mooching about Udons premier league intersection , looks like more measuring spraying of numbers and lines ... COULD this be the start of the highly anticipated long over due make over ???? ... or are they just teasing ??

Traffic surprisingly heavy at 8am .. being as many places are having thurs to sunday as hols for the Chinese New Year .. the year of the OX ..

Really quiet on HWY2 straight through the centre of town this morning. Hardly any traffic at all

Very busy through town. Backing up at every set of traffic lights going through 2 or 3 sequences before we got through

The Ring Road from Big C towards Global is a bloody disaster, with the widening roadworks and I also noticed they are going to do the same from Big C towards the KK road , so better plan alternative routes for a few months

We’ve gone anti clockwise on the ring road through the roadworks quite a few gone recently with no problems other than a bit of congestion where two lanes go into one before Soi Nongbua crossroads.
The bigger problem I found was trying to join the ring road clockwise under the Big C overpass. The volume of traffic coming along the ring road meant they aren’t able to clear the junction so when the lights go green you still can’t go. The queues were right up to the fruit market u turn last week

I got stuck in that mess on Friday, and never again. If they would put a few coppers in the intersection to stop traffic from blocking the intersection, all would go well. However, we all know we can't inconvenience the local BIB like that and ask them to actually do their jobs.

^ They were on the other carriageway in front of the restaurant fish supply place just before Siam Grand nicking chancers who were nipping across on amber or red when the junction eventually cleared enough space.

Ages ago I got nicked for not getting across the HWY2 junction when BIB stopped all the cars in front of me leaving me stranded. They probably thought it would cause more chaos if they did this at Big C as there’s not much room to pull drivers over so took the easier option of the other carriageway

They have always used that spot, once I nearly ran down a Police Officer as he jumped out as I was turning off the Sakon Nahkon Road onto the ring road, no lights involved so speeding up as one does, looking at the oncoming traffic as one does then all of a sudden this apparition pretending to be a Police Officer jumped out about 10 yards in front , luckily I stopped inches away. God I gave him a mouthful and also stopped at the Inspectors table and told him, next time I run the stupid man down. never happened since I might add.

Back on topic after the little story interlude, Udon traffic.
I’ve just managed to struggle through the ring road gridlock & come back to where I wanted to get to through the Nong Bua back streets. The 3 lane queue down to the ring road has now stretched past the fruit market u turn & is more or less opposite Makro.
Judging by the cars going south this is only going to get a lot worse today

As I said before this will be an ongoing situation as LOGIC is NOT used with any road works , today I wished to get to the other side of town, going via the Airport was quicker than attempting to navigate through all the traffic . coming back used the back doubles and made in swiftly and safely, pklus timing is the thing, there are times when even normally it is too much traffic, so amend your journey times and THINK and work out alternative routes.
