Statts
Piss weak attempt. Maybe under the influence?
Yes the Indians gave us a touch up. Well done in reporting old news.
But, why not concentrate and focus on the game in front of you.
It is a great achievement by your captain Joe Root in scoring a century in his 100 test.
Now that’s a great personal milestone for him .
Oh for the Bob Helm days for a decent cricket to and fro UM banter.
Statts, stick to putting nonsense in your pommy breathren on the soccer threads.

Re: Cricket 2021
Just thought i'd mention it for those that only notice it when they play in pretty coloured jimjams
Re: Cricket 2021
Touch up? I'd say the rather improvised Indians gave the Aussies the proverbial big dry one up the ort.Barney wrote: ↑February 7, 2021, 10:10 pmStatts

Howdya like that decent banter, eh?
Re: Cricket 2021
England have played well and, as I type, leave the Indians to score 420 in, at a guess, about 110 overs so, a draw is the worst case scenario for England.
I've read the various websites about qualification for the new world test championship but am still scratching my head. It seems we need to win the series 3-1 to qualify for the final at Lords but, I cant figure out why or who we would play. The Aussies and NZ appear to be in the mix.

I think they are using the Duckworth/Lewis/Bruce & Sheila system to work it out

39 - 1 at stumps day 4
"Gabba test final day also started with Gill and Pujara together with Rohit in the hut. The expectations at the time were also Aus favourites." .............. don't like lightning

Re: Cricket 2021
India 192 all out England win by 227 runs (Jack Leach 4 - 76 Jimmy Anderson 3 - 17)
Re: Cricket 2021
Looks to me like England are defending their series lead rather than going for it. Bringing Moeen in will weaken the bowling and is a little harsh on Bess who took 4 wickets on a flat surface in the 1st innings of the 1st test. Not sure Broad and Woakes will do the same damage as Anderson and Archer but, again, will arguably strengthen the batting.

Re: Cricket 2021
Just wouldn't have been "cricket" to have played our strongest side and tried to pummel the opposition on their own track ........... this is England ya know not that other bunch .......... have to give them a "good chance" of "making a game of it"

Re: Cricket 2021
India all out 300 odd. Now this will be real test of Root, Bristol and the other pom batsmen on a dust bowl that is spitting and spinning. If they can make a game of it from here all respect to them. Great viewing on a quiet sunday afternoon.

So not so great viewing so far Statts. Hopefully Bristol will be able to wack em around the park after the cucumber sandwiches have been dispatched.

Re: Cricket 2021
Right , just the 482 required to win and 2 days plus about 20 overs to get them (for some reason, lord knows why the bookies only have them @ 14/1 .......more like 140/1 I would think)

Re: Cricket 2021
Those odds aren't juicy enough for Lillee and Marsh to risk 10 quid on. Root and Bristol in now so should be done by tea tomorrow.stattointhailand wrote: ↑February 15, 2021, 5:14 pmRight , just the 482 required to win and 2 days plus about 20 overs to get them (for some reason, lord knows why the bookies only have them @ 14/1 .......more like 140/1 I would think)

Bristol isn't Botham and Madras isn't Headingly. 500/1 could may as well be 5000/1.

The good old days
Bob Massie First Test Debut. The record before that was 13 wickets in a test debut

Re: Cricket 2021
The Hundred is back on in England and Wales. Postponed due to Covid in 2020.
8 team competition men’s and women. Stating July?
Could be a few Aussies in the draft going over to take the pounds offshore
Warner a big money prize for The Hundred
David Warner, Marnus Labuschagne, Mitch Marsh and Josh Philippe are among the Australian stars who will feature in the draft for English cricket's The Hundred.
David Warner is set to be the big money headline act in the English cricket summer as he heads an array of 38 top Australian players chasing the remaining places in The Hundred tournament.
Warner has re-entered the tournament draft in a bid to earn one of the remaining seven overseas slots up for grabs in the inaugural 100-ball-a-side innovation.
But grabbing the signature of the Australian luminary will not come cheap for any of the potential eight suitor teams as Warner is one of just 10 overseas players who have set the highest reserve price of GBP100,000 (A$180,000).
The others alongside the 34-year-old Warner in the top bracket are Babar Azam, Quinton de Kock, Kagiso Rabada, Lockie Ferguson, Shakib-al-Hasan, Jason Holder, Kieron Pollard, Nicholas Pooran and Tamim Iqbal.
Warner had originally been due to play for the Southampton-based Southern Brave in 2020 but pulled out of the inaugural event which ended up being shelved in the pandemic.
Neither Steve Smith nor Mitchell Starc, who both originally signed up with Cardiff-based Welsh Fire for 2020, have re-entered the draft.
Yet Warner, who also hadn't been expected to play this season, is taking advantage of fresh opportunities after Australia's tour to South Africa was cancelled.
Among the 500 players, mostly English, throwing their hat into the draft, there are more than a few other Australian Big Bash stars who are interested – and will come a bit cheaper than Warner.
Perth Scorchers allrounder Mitch Marsh and paceman Jhye Richardson, along with Sydney Sixers wicketkeeper-batsman Josh Philippe, are on at the next highest reserve of level of GBP80,000 ($A143,000).
Marnus Labuschagne, Dan Christian, Andrew Tye, Matthew Wade and Jason Behrendorff are in the GBP60,000 ($A107,500) bracket while Alex Carey is available at GBP48,000 ($A86,000).
Ben Cutting, James Faulkner and Usman Khawaja have been set at GBP40,000 ($A72,000) with Fawad Ahmed, Travis Head and Mark Steketee in the GBP32,000 ($A57,000) bracket.
The Aussies with no reserve price are Sean Abbott, Wes Agar, Jackson Bird, Hilton Cartwright, Ben Dunk, Ben Dwarshuis, Nathan Ellis, Callum Ferguson, Chris Green, Sam Heazlett, Daniel Hughes, Josh Inglis, Josh Lalor, Ben McDermott, Lloyd Pope, Alex Ross, Billy Stanlake, Ashton Turner, Jake Weatherald, Jon Wells, Jack Wildermuth and Daniel Worrall.
The eight competing teams in The Hundred have already retained some players that they signed from the 2019 draft, including Australian stars Adam Zampa, Glenn Maxwell, Aaron Finch, Chris Lynn, Marcus Stoinis, Nathan Coulter-Nile and D'Arcy Short.
Competition to join them will now be fierce, as 252 overseas players in total have entered the men's draft, battling for the seven places while 254 British-based players have also put their names forward in a bid to gain one of only 28 domestic places.
The draft will take place behind closed doors on February 22 with the final selections revealed the following day.
