Weather in Udon ?

Quite blustery at Chez Niggles this morning. No point in coiffuring my bouffant as it will be blown willy nilly as soon as I step outside.

The AQ is better, probably because all the particles are being blown over another province

Most definately a tad cooler overnight , 16 according to my data .. no fan and 5am i was scrambling for my favourite comfort blanket .. lovely walking the dogs at that great time just as its getting light .."" best part ov the day"" as my old gran used to say.

The stench of burning has gone around here so I guess Somchai the Farmers will now be available to get back to work on the half built houses in the area

Yes the weather generally is excellent , amazing how in a space of a few short hours going from 16 overnight to a pleasant 20 degrees with a gentle hint of a breeze in 2 and 3/4 hours . This weekend of reasonable temperatures heralding the warmer weather coming next week ,culminating in a possible 37 degrees in 7 days time. Narry a drop of rain to lessen the impact of reckless farmers and general road dust circulated by not only cars but the ever increasing number of lorries carrying earth for landfilling etc. Tis the time of year for pond digging and laying the initial foundations for housing etc .

AQI around 120 or so this morning on the east side. So, the burning hasn't stopped it's just not as smoky..

Yes, same at Chez Niggles, no smell of burning or visible smoke but still a high AQI.

Its a measure of the five major air pollutants regulated by the Clean Air Act as which most Air Quality websites report.
Ground-level ozone, particle pollution (including PM2.5 and PM10), carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide, nitrogen dioxide.

The main pollutant in Udon is usually PM2.5

There are 3 AQI stations in Udon - The Base, ICS & UD International School

So during sugar cane burning season it would be easy to break it down by 2.5 and 10.
I would imagine the larger airborne particle 10 would increase as sugar is burnt.
Why don’t they show these 2.5 vs 10 ppm in a longer period graph chart to show the burning season?

Heading up Hy 2 this morning 07:00hr the haze stretched across the highway and the smell was definitley that of something burning and one suspects fields.
Will it end? only when they have no more to burn

it usually ends about now.. I've got to say though that this is the first year I've watched the AQI regularly but it does seem worse than previous years...

Cannot comment on Udon but In Buriram less Sugar cane appears to have been burnt with more farmers using the new cutting machines instead of burning they strip the leaves .. obviously not all can afford these machines similar to a combine harvester but they are now are av on daily rental so hopefully more will use them over the next few seasons.

I saw them using those machines like mini combined harvesters around quite a few plantations here. In fact, I’ll go so far as to say I think the same machine was being used by a lot of land owners as I recognised the scratches down the side. Maybe it’s an entrepreneurial chap who bought it for hiring out.
The burning seems to have been coming from some of the smaller plots so as you say, maybe they can’t afford hiring the machine.
We’ve only had two weeks or intermittent days where there was a strong smell of localised burning & I think it’s finished now. The AQI stations report a large area round Udon City so I suspect the levels will remain high for a while yet

Was up very early to set off to Bkk but then informed of a delay due to customs checks and labeling of goods arriving issues.. stayed up and circa 5-30am to 6am very foggy still misty now and a very nice 19 degrees.. alas starting to warm up in the day time and today 34 a bit too warm for me much prefer the mid to late 20s ..

Looking like the end of cool season is upon us dont think will get anymore low temps just warmer thru March then the usual steaming hot April ..

Temperature next 3 days 36-37 degrees. Season hot here for sure.
