As I said before this will be an ongoing situation as LOGIC is NOT used with any road works , today I wished to get to the other side of town, going via the Airport was quicker than attempting to navigate through all the traffic . coming back used the back doubles and made in swiftly and safely, pklus timing is the thing, there are times when even normally it is too much traffic, so amend your journey times and THINK and work out alternative routes.
I thought this thread was to advise other members of "Udon Traffic" & give the heads up on pinch points, bottlenecks, possible alternative routes & police stops. Not some excuse to get the usual expected dig in about the local population & ramble without any detail.
You've succeeded in giving no useful information as to the traffic through Udon, well done, I thank you for your help

Thankyou for your sarcastic and unwarranted comments, I sincerely hope your journeys are trouble free.

the east side Ring Road from the Big C overpass to just past the Nong Sai intersection is down to 1.5 lanes so backups are there..

I’ve just noticed some roadwork signs heading north on Nittayo Road from the fruit market towards Soi Nong Bua traffic lights which are suggesting a lane closure. That should help traffic flow in the area
(See KP, it’s really that easy)

For an out-of-towner uncertain with road layouts, and contemplating a quick shopping visit into Udon, where are the likely problems?
Proposed route would be Hwy 22 to stop at Big C, then proceed further along Nittayo for a u-turn to stop at Cheese 2Meat U. Arriving say mid-late morning.
Return in the opposite direction, using the overpass.
Thanks

^ from what I’ve seen this morning you should be okay HWY22 to Big C. Maybe a small delay crossing the ring road if it’s blocked off by drivers who can’t get right across but even so it’s possible to get through on a green change.
After Big C carry on up Nittayo Road to the u turn after C2MU & the only delay is on the Soi Nong Bua light change.
Back over the flyover stick to the right lane so not to get caught in the queue for the ring road which is the 3 left lanes.
Traffic conditions could have changed in the last hour

Don’t know what’s happened but the queue going south on Nittayo Road to the ring road has completely gone. The traffic looked like it was flowing freely on the ring road too although I didn’t actually drive it taking the u turn under the bridge to Big C instead

I know it is easy but you are assuming that many need a blow by blow account daily .

No, an account of real-time traffic problems.
It would be pointless giving an account of last week wouldn’t it

So you think writing in real time will assist people who by then are already in the proverbial due to traffic mayhem .
Highlighting problems generally is a far better way then one can plan to avoid, pointless when you are enjoying the problem .

I just did the slow crawl from the Nittayo flyover to the Nong Bua intersection and traffic was steadily moving despite being down to single-lane on both sides. Discipline at both sets of lights was OK with nobody rushing to block the intersection on a red. They had a backhoe digging out the newly compacted layers of grade on the southbound side opposite Romyen as it looks like some after-the-fact drainpipes are going in. Since this is a work in progress, maybe the best advice is to avoid that bit (if you can) during the regular peak hours?
The amount of graders and dump trucks working on the stretch between Nong Bua and Global has been steadily increasing and it looks like a major wet spot still exists just south of the HomePro u-turn. Right now, it's still 2-lanes each way.
The section north of Global to the new flyover sees a couple of new extra-wide u-turns added which may help the rush hour bottleneck at the existing single one just north of the railway tracks.

The Nittayo Road lane closure is NOT yet in operation, however as it is indicating it is the nearside lane possibly being closed and with the OUTSIDE lane just prior to the Nong Bua Traffic lights being often uised U Turn facility, then it will mean that road decreasing to ONE lane proceeding to those lights.
No indication as yet.to what they are intending or even a glimmer of a reason, it may well be to deal with the drainage works on the other side at the Sports centre linking up with something under the road ( just an educated guess ). This means any route into town needs to be thought out carefully.
As for the Ring road debacle it is ongoing and will remain so for a few months yet I fear. Quicker to go via the Airprort into town possibly , as on my side there is no easy shortcut over to the Sam Phrao Road which would miss out the Ring Road .
Maybe use Nonghan for a few months for other goods not supplied by Big C or Makro. Nonghan now has a Thai Watsaidu and Tops

If someone is already out, they’re hardly likely to be reading UM are they. If someone is going out & sitting waiting for their significant other which most normal people do then they’re likely to be browsing the forum & can pick up on traffic problems.

If I was coming down HWY22 & wanted to get to Sam Phrao road, I’d turn off by the Border Police & go through Nong Sai. It’s only 7 mins longer than the ring road when it’s flowing freely so would be significantly quicker with the roadworks.
Of course you really knew this route living here so long didn’t you

Bumped into Steve and Mali at Big C today, both looking well BTW. We chatted about the buggered up ring road access to Romyen and he just goes out the back way and comes in 'over the bridge' so there's always ways and means. He also commented that these ring road improvements are a 3-year project.

Good idea, you would of course have to go down to the Ring Road junction to do a U TURN, then back up to the turn you are describing as a RIGHT turn is NOT available . Had you used your knowledge you would know that wouldn't you !

You need to get out a bit more.

So, I wanted to get from HWY22 to the 9D Hotel & this is the route I took. Not too long & no excessive traffic. Now sipping a latte & eating cake
I actually like taking these little sois when crossing town as I see all the little specialist shops & trades that might come in handy some day.
Khai Seni Pithak Chon
Cross the ring road
Prachasanti Road
Nittayo Road
Thonglor Road
Wathananuwong Road
Adulyadet Road
Phon Phisai Road
Weersai Road
Ring road for 500m or so

Congratulations on your knowledge, try not being so superior in your attitude to others . We all make mistakes including you and as a retort to your self, often there is NO Queue but sometimes there is and a newcomer may not know this route and it only brings you out via the Non Sai road , which with the current expansion the road works will clog up as that junction is even slower than usual. So the option of turning left towards the KK Road and going into town is far more preferable and probablyquicker.
