Golf
Golf
I am interested in playing golf in Udon. I have always loved the sport, but I have only played a couple of times before, so I am not so good.
But I don't have any clubs. (I don't have any balls either but that's another story ).
Is anyone willing to take me for a morning or afternoon?
Or steer me in the right direction.
Thanks
Nick

Hi Nick,
I am returning from Korea at the end of the month and have not played any golf for several years. I have picked up some cheap clubs here as Koreans like to replace their clubs quite often and I do have a few spare balls.
My form will be poor but I am looking forward to playing again. I will PM you in early August to check if you are available for a round.
Pete

Nick, let me point you in the right direction... that is if you are truly interested in learning the game.
My first suggestion would be to contact David McCallum, a Scot and a PGA Professional. He currently teaches through MacGolf at the Nong Khai driving range, 7 days a week. He can be reached at 084 513-1321. He has all the right credentials and has been teaching for several years. Having taught over 15,000 lessons he is definitely the man to see this North Issan. I've seen the results of his work and can say, 'he truly has a knack.'

hi folks...i would like to purchase a budget set of golf clubs and try and give it a go...i played a bit 10yrs ago and found it very difficult and a little frustrating but lets face it, is this the perfect place to get into golf or what, blues skies and endless sun!!..(well, in the winter time anyway)...also, I live quite near to where they are building a driving range so might as well make use of it...(when they finish it in about 10yrs)
tesco don`t seem to offer any although they do sell other accessories...do big C sell them or is there a specialist shop somewhere?
don`t want to spend too much in case it turns out i am crap...
PS. does anyone know where you can buy some decent quality fitness machines...the ones in tesco and big C seem a bit flimsy

Kris, there is an area with golf equipment and fitness machines near Tops in the Charoensi Complex.
I've not really looked at the fitness machines so I don't know what quality they are.
Re budget sets of golf clubs - I wasn't looking in that area but the golf clubs that I did look at (Taylormade, Nike etc) seemed expensive compared to prices in the UK.
Good quality golf balls are only slightly cheaper than UK, but there are many cheaper varieties which are almost as good - unfortunately they all appear to lack flotation devices.

Sports World in Charoensri have a Wilson set for I think it is 17,800 Baht... Reduced from twenty-something thousand. They have another budget set but I didn't recognise the name.
The also have fitness machines but I didn't pay too much attention to them... I get a nose bleed around them. The most adventurous I might do is the Ab-crunching thingy for 2,494 Baht.

For the information of Nick[ref PM] you can pick up second hand clubs in a shop opposite the main entrance to Mariephiyhak School, [next to the frozen seafood shop]
The prices range from 150 bht to 200bht per club, they are not brilliant, but they would get you bye whilst learning, I picked up a complete set for 1500 bht, [minus putter which I still need-- if anyone has one for sale!]
hope this is helpful

There are literally dozens of used clubs, some full sets and many individual pieces, at the little townshop just outside the entrance to the Nong Samrong Army Base (and golf course). As you exit the base going towards Hwy 2 to Nong Khak (NOT towards ring-road) the shop is less than 50 meters on the right hand side. They even have a little 'hitting' area next to the shop where you can take a swing if you'd care to.

Hi KOKKOR, The school is off of the main road from town to Big C around about 600mts before you get to Bic C, you will see on your left, St Mary's school, Opposite St Mary's entrance, there is a turning to the right, which leads to the school in question.

Nick,
If your serious about taking up Golf have half a dozen lessons first to get your stance and swing, then go onto driving range to practice. You'll save a lot time, get more enjoyment, instead of hacking, hooking and slicing around the greens.

Udon Thani, best seen through your car's rear view mirror.
Give me a break, I'm not that bad.Prenders88 wrote:Nick,

Besides they don't have clubhouses at the driving range.
