Re: Miscellaneous COVID-19/Corona Virus Discussion, Questions, etc.
Last year, Myanmar was one of several countries that had a 21-day quarantine on arrival for everyone. Others, like Mongolia, stopped EVERYONE from entering, including their own.
The way this first highly infectious variant is going, I think that some countries may eventually need to do either the 21-day or the "don't even think about it" options.
Tourism? Best to just forget about it.

There is a double something or other variant originating in India reaching countries such as Canada. With a large number of flights arriving in Canada every week from India, it is not surprising that this new variant has arrived in Quebec.

Let's hope Thailand and the U.K. don't get it. Western Canada is getting infected by the Brazilian variant while eastern Canada is locked down owing to the Kent variant. No-one talks about the original Wuhan variant very much anymore. The Province of Ontario is getting 4200-4450 new cases of covid every day.

No direct flights that I am aware of, happy to be proven wrong in that case but cargo and military aircraft have different rules. I would assume plenty travelers who have rubbed shoulders with those who may have originated in or or passed through India have already entered Thailand, served ASQ and been released in the wild.Drunk Monkey wrote: ↑April 22, 2021, 9:40 amAre there any flights into Thailand arriving from India ??? .. the UK variant is believed to have walked in over the Camdodian border.

It was an opinion of a Thai medical specialist about ten days ago that this had 'walked-in' from Cambodia. I haven't seen any official statement that has confirmed or denied this. That may have been a kneejerk comment in defense of the handling of pax on arrival at BKK more than anything scientific.
There's already been 77 cases of the new Indian strain confirmed in England and 4 more in Scotland. The UK has belatedly red-listed India for travelers.

The Canadian government will not prohibit flights from India and Brazil as it might be considered racist. Note that the article is dated 22 April but the video voice-over talks about a Songkran holiday that hasn't happened yet? Take from that what you will but I think it's pretty shoddy compilation of timelines and commentary.Drunk Monkey wrote: ↑April 22, 2021, 9:18 amHospitals dont want to test in case the person being tested is positive and they have to be admitted ?? .. did i hear that correct ??noosard wrote: ↑April 22, 2021, 9:04 amNice they forgot to mention that the foreign tourist have to do 14 days hard timetamada wrote: ↑April 22, 2021, 8:59 amHow some on the outside are beginning to notice Thailand's current debacle.

You are referred to Government Hospitals if you wish to be tested.

But I do agree that it's too little and too late even for those more cautious nations and states like New Zealand and Hong Kong that only initiated bans in "the past few weeks".

Heathrow Airport has refused to allow extra flights from India before the country is added to the UK travel red list on Friday.tamada wrote: ↑April 22, 2021, 9:52 amThere's already been 77 cases of the new Indian strain confirmed in England and 4 more in Scotland. It turned down the requests from airlines because of concerns about queues at passport control.
The airport told the BBC that it did not want to exacerbate existing pressures at the border by allowing more passengers to fly in.
From 0400 on Friday many arrivals from India will be refused entry.
When the new rules come into effect, anyone arriving in England or Scotland from India will need to stay in a government-sanctioned quarantine hotel for 10 days and follow a strict coronavirus testing regime at their own expense.
A month or so slow on the uptake
Re: Miscellaneous COVID-19/Corona Virus Discussion, Questions, etc.
Yes, I forgot to mention that. This follows on from a friends recent experience in Bangkok where some private hospitals and clinics have reported 3-weeks for earliest test appointments thus funneling those wishing to be tested ASAP through more "controlled" channels. The government's policy that all +ve test cases must be hospitalized is integral to this new testing policy but with hospitals already overloaded and the scramble to set up field hospitals, I think a lot of people will no longer volunteer to be tested. It's definitely going to mess up the plans of those who simply need the testing ahead of international travel.Zidane wrote: ↑April 22, 2021, 10:07 amThe Bangkok Hospital in Udon stopped doing Covid tests towards the end of last week.Drunk Monkey wrote: ↑April 22, 2021, 9:18 am

Meanwhile, in the northeastern province of Udon Thani, the director of Udon Thani Hospital, Dr. Ruethai Watthanavinit, was recently diagnosed with COVID-19, raising the total number of infected medics to eight, including three doctors, three nurses, a domestic worker and one patient attendant.
