Prostatitus advice

Just been diagnosed with an enlarged prostate. I was prescribed finasteride 5mg and alfuzosin 10mg. The hospital charged me 1300 baht for a one month supply which seems quite expensive. Anyone buy these meds at a pharmacy, and if so, what is the price range. Thanks.

Have been taking Xatral XL 10mg (from Sanofi aventis) for the past several years now, for the same reason. One tablet per day and works well, after you get the first week of tablets into your system. Just have to remember to take one daily, thereafter.

From memory a pack of 30 Tablets is around B 1,200 and it 15-20% cheaper, if you are travelling through Cambodia

I have been told that there are cheaper Thai generic tablets in the local market, but I haven't bothered testing them out. It's worth paying the extra money for Xatral, just to have a good piss.

If I may ask, what were the symptoms that led to this diagnosis or was this discovered during a regular health check up?

I had a bad bout of Prostsatitus, was on antibiotics for 10 days, during that time I went and got a PSA test at the Udon Clinic which came back at 9.8. I showed this to the specialist at the hospital during my follow up from Prostatitus, was given a rectal exam right away, and diagnosed with enlarged prostate.

You should be able to buy them at most local pharmacies.

I was prescribed Tamsulosin (400 micro grams) in Nong Khai. GP (Dr) in the UK prescribes me the same.

But after many years, ceases to be so effective.
Avadart is used to reduce the size of the postate.
Doxazosin relaxes the tissue around the prostate
This medication costs me almost 2,000 baht a month
I have an appointment at Military hospital soon for hopefully TURPS procedure
Cost? Yet to discover!

After visiting the urologist at military hospital yet again, I asked if I could have surgery for BPH.
He's responce was "Not good idea not help much".
Maybe because my age (79) I dont know. But He insists on prescribing medication.
(Avadart and doxasozin).
But of course private hospital would do it. At a price!
Aek Hospital 80,000 baht. or Bangkok hospital 170,000
This is "TURPS" surgery. Rezum probably costs more. ...If the perform it!

Hi, the video very informative. Since the video was made there is now another procedure. Worth researching and it will be the one I opt for if it becomes available. There is an info link as well as a link to an interview with Prof Henry Woo, a Sydney Urologist.

The disadvantage is "Not suitable for large prostate burdens".
If not Prostate is not large, then can be sorted with medication?
There are many options for BPH procedures. I doubt very much if even those are available in Thailand let alone this one!

Good question choichoi. I was on Tamsulosin for around a year and found it minimally effective. I was still getting nocturia at least once a night. My prostate was 45mm(?) when measured about 4 years ago and my Aus urologist said the other favoured medication, Avodart (dutasteride), does not work well on a slightly enlarged one.

As the for the iTind Stent option. I like the idea of a procedure that does not require a catheter after for a period of time. I would fly to Aus if I am a candidate to have it done. I long for a full nights sleep.

Written before on this subject but a reminder to all us more mature guys. Had the most severe of infections (99.5% inability to pee)and in severe pain for a number of days. Went to the nearest hospital emergency room in Pattaya and after about 3 hours they suggested fitting a catheter. Instantly filled about 6 bags with backed up urine, kept in for 3 nights on the obligatory anti-biotic drip and urine discharge monitored. Attended a urologist after recovering slightly had the usual finger exam and PSA. Finger showed very enlarged prostate but doc said smooth and no feel of cancer, PSA results indicated the same Was on meds for 3/4 months and everything back to almost normal apart from no discharge on orgasm. That was at the time when the Army Coup happened so about 6 years ago. Not on permanent meds, and normally get at least 4 hours sleep before the wife's feathered alarm clocks wake me and I go pee. I am despite what Tamada says, not too old at 66 but was a frightening experience. Get a PSA check every year after 60 if you can.

I do my yearly full bloodwork and ad to that PSA and Testosteron test..This year PSA 1.48...Test levels..at 546..taken miday.Everything was good...BMI at 20.5.BTW,i'm 63.
AO,what is your latest PSA test levels?

PS.Just wonder how many Forum members here do a yearly Fullblodwork and most importantly the PSA test.My guess not to many.DS

Nearly overdue buddy, (had all the tests done before spine op last June) all fairly normal but creeping towards the higher end of the scale, a bit reluctant to go into hospitals with the dreaded virus spreading so fast. Will update once infection levels start to drop. Just now everything seems fairly normal but need to see not just PSA but Diabetes 2 results. If you get it done in a Government hospital it will not cost much more than a night on the piss. Stay safe.

Udon-Lab i paid 750 for the Testosteron Test,PSA,sorry but forgot the amount ,might have been the same.
