Ominous wins for

Man U
Liverpool
Chelsea

and also for that matter
Leicester
Everton

Expect Man City (and West Ham) to win later today... meaning all the big 4 ..the only 4 that will be streets ahead of the rest start impressively.

In patches Leeds played ok and had chances .. BTW the patch was about 1 minute when Ayling scored

Chelski v Palace could be fun......
It wasn't, at least not for me. I resisted the temptation not to bother at all, but had had enough by half time. Chelsea dominated throughout in more or less another siege towards the Palace goal. To be honest, loads of money has meant Chelsea is in a different world to Palace, with individual players of far higher quality and in team play too. The gap is so great between the rich and lesser teams, that the latter might as well stay home. Just once in a while, there's a surprise, but those occasions are very rare. Of course, fans from the poorer Clubs remember the upsets with glee. I'm not critical of the Palace owners, head coaches or the players, just arguing that, with the huge gap between the have and have-nots, perhaps one third of the Premiership games don't even count as 'contests'! Appreciating that possession of the ball doesn't necessarily mean you win (you've gotta do something with it!), Palace is particularly poor at hanging on to it, which exaggerates the one-way traffic even more. But occasions when your team doesn't even get into the opposition penalty box in the whole game, or manage a single shot on target - well, ridiculous, isn't it? Solution? Perhaps amazingly rich Arabs, probably in preference to dodgy Russians or Americans? Or perhaps a great youth development system to reproduce a "Team of the Eighties", relatively on the cheap. Please hurry up. Time is running out.

Just for Niggles (could become a fav on the terraces at ----- Rd))

You don't mean to be a problem
You don't mean to cause me pain
You don't mean to do much but it's one and the same
I don't know where this came from
I thought we were plain sailing
This has taken me aback and it goes without saying
Yeah I'm gonna feel broken for a bit
Life's gonna be a little bit ----
Ohh, for at least the next week
We had our flaws I'll be the first to admit
And we both struggled to commit
Ohh, was it really that bleak?
And I don't know why I've been crying over you
For the life of me, I wish that I knew
And I don't know, just how much more I can go through
Man oh man I wish I knew, I've been crying over you

If it hadnt been for the fact that the Chelski/Palace game was the featured match (the only one being shown where they interupt with picture in picture to show anything of interest from all the other games) I would probably have been flicking through the various games. It certainly highlighted the job PV has if he's gonna guide Palace to a strong season.
The worrying thing is that Lukaku is yet to arrive, James only had a few minutes (as did Haverz) and first teamer regulars Thiago/Zouma/Chilwell/Kante/Zyech/Hudson Odoi didnt get any minutes at all :-&
Just looking at the two benches highlighted the problems with Palaces bench filled with kids which forced the experienced players to carry on playing long after they had run themselves into the ground

No crying or negativity at Leeds. We dont have anyone in the same stratosphere as Pogba, Fernandes and Greenwood when they're on it. We punched above our weight last year and, anything above 15th will be punching above our weight this year.

Played like a Pogba/Bale/Mahrez when they had been refused a move.

Seeing the seagulls win at Turf Moor was a bit worrying, considering the toon contrived to lose a behind closed doors game there last week :yikes:

Final score Newc 2 West ham.4 .. so ominously both Leeds n Newcastle get battered on the first day of the new season, maybe statto n niggly can go discuss tactics at a location where food and drnks are easily openable.

Cant complain too much, it usually takes the toon 6 weeks to score TWO goals.
Was NEVER a pen though, would have struggled to even make a case using last seasons rules.
Both players carried on coz they didnt expect a pen to be awarded
Just to put icing on the bad decision Soucek was well inside the box before Antonio missed the spot kick
Dont know what the point of VAR is if they are still gonna get the main decisions wrong
At least were not bottom .......... Yet

Who needs no show ""toys out the pram"" Kane when you got Mr Son ..

Another great end to end high temp EPL game to end the weekends fixtures and 100m Grealish Sterling n Co couldnt find a goal as Spurs ran out 1-0 winners...looking good doing so...

I suspect unlike the likes of Leeds Arsenal and Newcastle this was just an opening day blip for Man City and they will probably go the rest of the season unbeaten.

Good to see Statto seems to have his Steve Bruce book of excuses already and open at page 1 of 300 (must of arrived in a kiddy packaging)

Elsewhere .. Scunthorpe picked up a point and a clean sheet away from home ..did i mention that already ??

Useless statistic ... EPL table looks strange .. 10 teams on 3 points 10 on 0 points ..yep no drawn games in the first round of fixtures for the first time since EPL was introduced.
