A farang went to the Udon Health Office today and a sign on the door said they were no longer registering anyone for the Pfizer shot. He went in anyway, and they registered him and gave him an appointment to get the Pfizer jab.

I went to the same office early Monday morning and they told me to go to the Uni and sign up there. Went to the uni and two hours later still no one there to sign me up. So my wife goes back to the Health Office with my pp and gets me registered right away.

Went and got the jab today---very smooth--- and done in 1 hour, but at the last station they tell me I can't come back in three weeks for the 2nd dose of Pfizer because I already had a Sinovac jab.

They told me I needed to "Wait" for the second Pfizer, but none of them would tell me for how long--even the nurse there. And somehow, call me cynical, I suspect there might not be another Pfizer jab sitting in fridge with my name on it to be administered at a later date.

Maybe it's not a vaccine I need, maybe it's a Valium.
You've had your two doses, don't be greedy, why should you get 3 jabs....Booster shot next year buddy!
Correct me if I am wrong, but I have read on several of the registration sites for Pfizer that is was only available to those individual that have NOT yet been vaccinated. In other words those who have yet to receive a First dose of the other covid vaccines available.

^ Also note that these Pfizer shots are from the US's donation and everyone getting their first jab are getting their second jab from the same stock. AFAIK, there's no plans for another donation of Pfizer.

That was also clear to me from my careful reading of all the various sources of information. While looking for information on vaccine mix-n-match I never saw anything about Sinovac followed by Pfizer. I think this would be the scenario the USA officials warned about with people doing their own mix-n-match. Hope it works.

Well the vaccination information is on a shared database, so they know if you have had any other jabs, and I believe two is the limit

Not sure if all the various vaccine databases are linked ..it would be handy as if 2 shots is the required number why have more that some one else could have used .

Stories in bkk of hisos having more jabs than Mike Tyson and some setting up small chill units stocking vaccines to administer at a later day...in case of appocolypse..

So combining a data basexwould help but wouldnt stop multi jabbing using the mates n brown envelope route

2 jabs enough for me ..until the time comes where may need a booster .

I don't think he informed them about his first dose of Sinovac, and they didn't catch it right away. Hence no second dose of Pfizer.
Please allow me to clarify my OP:

1. When I went for the Pfizer jab on Wed,25th, I was given two sheets to fill out at uni. I checked "No," on all the Thai boxes as instructed by my wife. I don't recall seeing a box on the English form asking if I had a jab already. I was rushing, so my bad, but it wasn't deliberate.

2. I verbally informed staff that I'd had the Sinovac shot and was due to get AZ in two days. I showed them my cert from that first jab. "No problem" was the response.

3. It was never my plan to do mix-and-match. That's THAILAND'S plan, isn't it? They were shifting me from Sinovac to AZ, which is mix-and-match, but then Pfizer became available. I think they are just thinking in terms of "Vaccines." It's a numbers game: "Oh, you get two." They don't seem to care which two, IS MY EXPERIENCE. I don't give a damn about what the rules and regs say, and anyone who has lived here as long as I have knows that most Thais don't either. It just depends on who you talk to in any given situation, which was the point of my post, which I guess everyone missed. Again, that must be my fault.

4. I'm not "Greedy" for three jabs. I turned down J&J and Moderna while I was deployed with the US military last year in Korea. I was in no hurry to get "experimental" vaccines. (Go ahead and criticize me for not getting vaccinated in Korea--I'm waiting). Now I'm back with my family; I have young kids, I have a responsibility to do what I can to protect them. We hardly go anywhere and you won't see me in a bar.

5. The only reason I got Sinovac was there was no word, at the time, on getting the donated Pfizer. This was before the Thai govt website which debuted in early August and suggested we had a chance to get Pfizer. I felt responsible to do something to protect my kids, so I broke down and got the cheap Chinese crap, because a doctor told me even that is better than nothing.

6. I still work. I have to travel. Which airline or country will accept me as being fully vaccinated with a Sinovac-Pfizer combination? NONE to my knowledge. That is the only reason I want the second Pfizer shot, to get around these vaccine passport requirements springing up in countries all over the world to do things like eat in a restaurant or get on a plane.

If I don't get the second Pfizer shot withing 12 weeks, I will be outside the window of efficacy. The nurse/administrator on duty was unable/unwilling to give me an appointment for a return.

I'm not asking for anyone's sympathy or advice. My post was all about the vagaries of life here, how one hand never seems to know what the other is doing, and how rules changes from day to day, despite a person's best efforts.
The best gadget is the human brain.

That all makes sense runrun .. and as previously posted whenever there is any official business to do here you can bank on there always being ""grey areas" re red tape .. with law changes , visa regulations and it seems the vac roll out.

Main thing is stay safe and lets get everyone in the country (who wants it) vaccinated and get business and economy on the go again.

I was talking to colleagues based in Bkk last night who are expecting things to improve and restrictions eased from September 1st again on 16th and the then even more in October.. as per the governments set meetings to leave or change restrictions... all i converse with are veruy hopeful things will be open as the new normal from November 1st .. the jury is still out.

@runrunshaw
My comment was not meant to be critical, although rereading it, could be taken that way. Mostly I was wondering about Pfizer following Sinovac as being uncharted territory. Actually, there has been plenty of talk about medical staff who received 2 Sinovac getting a Pfizer as a booster. That is very similar to what you have. Getting another Pfizer would seem like a great idea for you at this point.

I also considered Pfizer as a booster, but will wait it out and see what’s going on in a few month’s time. I’m not too interested in getting a third brand even though they all probably create a very similar end result. Good luck in your travels and work.

There is no data suggesting that having different vaccines are problematic.

However there is also insufficient data to suggest that the protection of 2 single doses of different vaccines give the same protection as 2 doses of the same vaccine.

The reason for the lack of data is that AFIK there are no trials of this regimen. I don’t know if this kind of trial will ever be approved.

You may have countries that do actually use 2 different vaccines for the 1st and 2nd doses but they are unlikely to to fulfil the requirements of a medical trial

Trials of combined covid vaccines
OK I was wrong that they are not being researched and may be being done in a way that they conform to the medical trial standards

However most of the papers referred to in the Nature article are not peer-reviewed, they maybe submitting them for peer-review or not. They may be full clinical trials or not, I haven’t read them yet so can’t comment on that point. The 1 that has been peer-review published maybe protected by a paywall I haven’t looked for that yet

They maybe of the kind of the Indian study of ivermectin that, though very large was not a full clinical trial

Preprints available here are not Lancet publications or necessarily under review with a Lancet journal. These preprints are early stage research papers that have not been peer-reviewed. The findings should not be used for clinical or public health decision making and should not be presented to a lay audience without highlighting that they are preliminary and have not been peer-reviewed.
The peer-review procedure is not remotely a rubber stamp exercise, it is an independent check, papers get rejected, studies get rejected, papers are sent back to the authors for more data, or because the data analysis doesn’t support the conclusions of the study. So that the papers are in preprint only suggests that the studies may be helpful

Got to the MOPH at 1040 hrs.
Was number 240 and out at 1130 hrs.
Get the Jab tomorrow at the University between 0800 hrs and 1200 hrs.

You need to take a copy of your passport with you they will not copy your passport at the MOPH.
Very well organized once you got upstairs.
You had to fill the form in downstairs get your number and they call you upstairs 20 at a time.

Good news Mike ... its also quite well organized a the the Uni as well...

As a heads up to all ... directly before the nurse gives you the needle double check the top of the form she gives you to sign to make sure its Pfizer , the mate i went with had an SI prefixed number which was Sinovac .. mine PF prefixed so he quickly pointed it out to the staff who changed it ... they will be doing other vaccines at the same time so need to double check .. you should get a Pfizer sticker on entry after they have checked your names on the list.

Checking other Isan provinces i havent seen the same PHO Pfizer registration being done as in Udon .. i aint complaining just wondering why that is.
