The Federal Government is forging ahead with plans for a vaccine passport app that would store vaccination details of Australians, enabling the eventual return of international travel. Travel Daily reports the Australian Digital Health Agency has issued a request for tender for the development of a “digital health mobile channel” — a smartphone app that will store the user’s Covid-19 vaccination certificate and test status. It is expected to be available for iPhone and Android users by December this year.

from news stories on factory and work cam closures over the last 5-6 months I'd say the primary "migrant" worker is Burmese. Despite the thousands likely put out of work I haven't seen any stories indicating any of them are heading back to the mess of Myanmar... On the post COVID front say for Udon, I've got to wonder if the Lao who patronized the businesses in Udon so heavily pre-pandemic will come back. In the interim both Mahosot and the military 103 Hospitals have expanded from small operations to huge high rise compounds, well equipped and funded by the Chinese. On the shopping front, I don't know if Lao has decided to facillitate imports from Thailand to be able to sell them in the brand new large Chinese built (and run) malls in Vientiane...

last time over in laos i noticed so many chinese products, even the duty free just seemed full of chinese products, now the rail is just about done products from china will pour in , they wont need to come to thailand as cheap chinese products will be available, food ,cars and trucks ,textiles you name it

It looks like the Property Market in Bangkok is not too phased by the events of Covid-19. Thai's seem keep buying as do some Foreigners (maybe not in the same record numbers, as before).

From what I have observed the actual Bangkok average prices per m2, at least in the Sukhumvit area (Watthana & Klong Toey), have remained very much as they previously were, with little or no reduction in price over this past year. Still it has only been a year and early next year may be a totally different story.

Whereas, apartments in Pattaya, on the other hand, have slowly dropped in their asking prices and many appear to have been on the market for sale, for a long time, waiting for those who are willing to wager a gamble, on a future investment in Pattaya.

I wonder whether the knock on effect of Covid-19, combined with an apparent World shortage of high-end Chips, will push the prices of the products, which are heavily reliant on these high-end Chips, up, over the next 12 - 18 months. You might want to get in early and do your Christmas shopping before the shelves are empty.

So if there a looming World shortage of computer chips (semiconductors),now and for the next 18 months, what does it mean for the average Consumer, when he wants to buy a............. The likes of BBC, Reuters, Bloomberg and CNBC, are reporting that it is and will continue to impact on the manufacture of, cars, washing machines, smartphones, credit cards, game console, etc. from now to end of 2023.

It would also appear that China too, is feeling the pinch of the Chip shortage, for a number of reasons. I wasn't aware that China depends so heavily on buying high-end Chips from other countries and that China is only 15% self reliant, with its it own manufacturing capacity?

^ That last bit was indeed a bit of an eye opener for me when it surfaced in some new article several months back. We are increasingly bombarded with how China is going to dominate everything from rare-earth minerals to wifi networks to the South China Sea. It's strange that all the China bashing is based on what they have or can do while their very weak and vulnerable position with regard to high-end chips never gets a mention.

yes the chinese got slack and just assumed the west was quite happy to sell to them . they found out it was their Achilles heal. but it only affects their high end products . they're quite proficient at producing 24nm chips which are ok for simple things like washing machines ect. but it has the high end ones for phones ,computers , self driving cars they cant produce themselves .. yet. the thing fascinating about it is we are reaching the limit of " moore's law" . in the next 5-10 years we will be at that physical limit. new carbon based chips and graphene is the next step but they don't expect that until 2040. real interesting stuff and way above my pay grade.

We were in Tesco Nadee yesterday.....the 3 major banks upstairs are gone. Lots of vendor space empty, both upstairs and down. Foodcourt pretty much empty of customers. Tesco itself very few customers. One wonders how long they'll be able to hold on.

Yep same same goes for Big C Nadee .....i popped in this morning and it was like a ghost town .. i hope it stays as its great being able to nip in and out so quick without the traffic and Qs .. sadly due to covid (or not) it must only be a matter of time before both Tesco and Big C pull the plug on the Nadee locations which would only leave Ngee Soon and i never really liked that place too many birds n rodents inside ..only good thing was all the various gender totty that seemed to get employed .. Brian the girl on check out 22 is lush.

Everything will be different post covid ... the newer new normal will most certainly effect the economy for years to come as well change the landscape of general life , shopping , dining out , festivals etc etc.

beer festivals , oh i miss them. when feasible you should start one jon. sausage and cider fates were great too. though eating sausages and drinking cider then getting on a giant bouncy castle with half a dozen pissed mates turned out badly.

My missus was telling me a couple of our favourite long established eating venues have closed down in Udon center .. beaten by covid regs or just retired ??? , we used to use them regularly , she did say the names buy wont attempt to write them .. my point being a post covid landscape will have changed massively in all provinces towns n cities re businesses that ceased trading , so many units shuttered and up for rent now...very sad

Rumblings out of the FES meeting yesterday of a post covid full weekend beer , sausage n pie festival some where in Udons West side ??... im here to help !!

IMO seems a tad early as covid is still rife but but maybe just maybe things business wise are improving as we are starting to get customers contacting us re ordering beverages as they are anticipating opening up from 1st Oct , locations in Ubon , Sisaket and Buriram have all provisionally ordered so combined with the recent vaccine its possibly good news.

Its going to be a long slow recovery process for all the country but from what im hearing more so in the likes of Bkk Pattaya etc .. to date our business has lost 2 established customers due the amongst other things covid restrictions leading them to close down.

With more n more people getting vaxxed and the cert and/or passport that goes with it eases the pressure of traveling so hopefully next month get back to the grindstone.

The daily covid number do seem to be dropping ... i noted yesterday nationally down to circa 11k , yes i realize more testing more cases but factor in MORE VACCINATIONS which itself means less ppl to test.

Bit of good news late last night ... the MOPH will be deep cleaning the ware house complex we are based in Bkk 20 to 25 September and can fully re open without the covid hoops to jump through from 27th ...so our bizz will restart from 1st October which gives me time mentally to prepare as being laid up since April has made me a tad lazy.

Time to slowly access the damage re who is still in business or closed down ..but seems our customer base hasnt been effected as bad as the likes of Bkk n Pattaya etc with numerous venues in Isan provinces (including Udon) making order enquiries with some starting to open from tomorrow.

Here is a possible post covid boost that would certainly make a few smile .. it would come as a huge surprise but its looking more likely as its tied into the snag a foreigner scheme .. duty on imported alcohol to be reduced by 50% for 5 years ... im loving the sound of this and may soon be able to buy some new flip flops.
