Tam i think the ranking system has been revamped since then as i cannot find the Jocks ever being as high as 20th .. you will see Scotland are 45th and lower than footballing power houses like Costa Rica , Algeria Iran and Qatar to name just 4.

Here is the current FIFA top 50 world list

https://www.fifa.com/fifa-world-ranking ... Id=id13407

Hope that helps.

There's no way I would expect such a blinkered follower of YouTube and other 'alternatve facts' to make a real effort to find the statistics of any football team other than Scunthorpe and/or England.

Maybe 'revamping history' is how the average iron fan elevates their mediocre history?

To make sure that the above website isn't as hopelessly jaded and misinformed as the ones you claim you couldn't find, I cross checked with the official FIFA website that you conveniently provided if only to bolster some weak notion of England's greatness.

Scotland was indeed 13th while England were nervously looking over their 11th placed shoulder.

The same pool of 199 nations that England were struggling in... but you knew this already.

Thanks for the graph. As suspected it shows Scotland considerably lower in the rankings than Iceland in 2016.

The point is our "Iceland moment" was hardly a shock in footballing terms.

Unlike our USA moment

Like most things the rankings are governed by who and when you play teams.
Scotlands high place followed beating the likes of Faroe Isles/South Africa/Lithuania and a France team that had already virtually qualified for Euro 2008 and were trying out personel/systems in a match they didnt need to win [-X

With regard to this defeat being 'hardly a shock', do a quick Google of "england lose to iceland" and tell me how many times the words humiliating, embarrassing, crashed and ignominious pop up?

But back to your opening sentence. England's loss to Iceland in 2016 was due to Scotland being considerably lower than Iceland in the FIFA world rankings?

Umm... OK. The rationale of the perpetual England straw clutcher still prevails I guess.

Scotland come from behind three times to edge Israel 3-2 in extra time at Hampden. Whoop-de-bloody-doo. Giving away free kicks, hoovering up a swath of yellow cards while screwing up penalties is NOT the way forward. It's how a team fails in the group stages (but we know this already).

How do you come from behind 3 times when your opponent only scores twice?

It's Scotland we're talking about you ninny. Perpetually coming from behind even in the very rare 5 goal rout.

England (just) drew. Looks like maybe they wore out their router on that last game? Kane reportedly still MIA.

Scotland, came from behind again and (just) won. The whole bloody team was MIA for the first 45.

For the other home nations, please use Google.

England remain unbeaten even after a below par effort against Hungery.. whilst WELL DONE to the Jocks who enjoyed another lucky win and are sitting pretty second in the group.. too early to celebrate yet Tam as ther group is tight ...as tight as ?? a camels arse in a sandbox maybe.

Canada dispatched Panama 4-1 last night in Toronto in an important soccer match.

Thanks for the assistance, Khun DM, it is much appreciated. It is a shame the holders of the match billed it as a soccer game. Perhaps they did not want to confuse the fans of the football team, the Toronto Argonauts for fear the rowdy, drunken hooligans might show up to intimidate the dirt poor followers of the country of Panama. All Panama has going for itself is some canal for goodness sake.

Denmark remain unbeaten and have a clean sheet too.

Note my distinctly non-celebratory tone DM. Some Scottish pundits are praising Lyndon Dykes who apart from buggering up bog-standard penalty kicks but still netting four times in as many games thus equaling Colin Stein's unimpressive record from 19-oatcake, isn't too terribly impressive. Maybe he'll grow into it before the playoffs that face them if they do hold onto 2nd place.

Well I'll be buggered...

John Souttar and Che Adams end Denmark's 26-game unbeaten run in qualifiers; Scotland head to the World Cup playoffs with a home semi-final tie.

I would tend to believe that by playing the players they did the Denmark management deliberately ended their 26 match unbeaten run.

Trying to work out seedings etc, it seems that the unseeded teams (Scotlands possible opponents) are
Austria, (nations lge qualifier)
Wales or Cz (3rd in group nations league qualifier))
N Macedonia
Wales or CZ (2nd place in group)
Sweden
Italy
