Re: World Cup 2022 (at the moment)
An outstanding showing by the Canucks who braved the elements to keep Mexico scoreless until the last two minutes of the match. By that time, the Mexicans were outfitted in parkas. Anyhow, it demonstrates that talent wins out in the end.Doodoo wrote: ↑November 18, 2021, 8:43 amWhere as those scheming Canucks will plan to play any matches at -6C and snowing. Teams will be required to have bonfires at central locations to warm themselves and prevent frostbite. Officials have been issued skates to keep up with players
Even with Canadas experience in playing in the winter conditions they were only able to outplay the Mexicans 2 to 1 a dismal showing
Officials were also bribed with Free Passes to allow them to jump Drive Thru lines at Tim Hortons
By the way, the Havana Cuba Sugar Kings used to start fires in their dugout to keep warm when they visited the Toronto Maple Leaf baseball team in early April in the mid'50s to early 60s.

1-1 at worst. the Canucks have too much talent on offence to be shutout. They aren't Everton, you know.tamada wrote: ↑November 18, 2021, 9:27 am5-0 followed by a wound-licking. Speaking of minnows, how many Scunthorpians will be representing England at the World Cup? Edmonton fans are a hardy lot and will not need to thaw out. Of course their ears may have fallen off, and they might be missing a few toes owing to frostbite, but that's a minor thing.Drunk Monkey wrote: ↑November 18, 2021, 8:39 amWOW thats a shock ...such a small third world footballing nation like Canadada da beating the Mexxies .. WELL DONE and also spare a thought for the fans some of whom are still thawing out.Laan Yaa Mo wrote: ↑November 17, 2021, 7:04 pmCanada handled Mexico 2-1 in a snow-lined field at Commonwealth Stadium. Re: World Cup 2022 (at the moment)
True, but Canada has an outstanding goalkeeper, whatever his name is, and their offence will dominate the ball leaving the Mexicans little opportunity to get their offence into gear. Don't forget Canada is ahead of the U.S., Mexico and Panama in this most competitive of divisions. The press is already predicting that with a little bit of luck, Canada should finish no worse than fourth, and the top three automatically get to go to the Cup final in the god-awful furnace that is Qatar. It's going to be as hot as blazes over there, which will be a hindrance for Scotland, Canada, Wales and Iceland.tamada wrote: ↑November 18, 2021, 9:33 amIt's defence that allow the other team's goals though.Laan Yaa Mo wrote: ↑November 18, 2021, 9:31 am1-1 at worst. the Canucks have too much talent on offence to be shutout. Quite right. That is why the game was scheduled for Edmonton. The weather and conditions might have given Canada a slight advantage over the Aztecs.Drunk Monkey wrote: ↑November 18, 2021, 8:50 amThe Mexxies did play in snow shoes and the heating was turned off in their dressing room according to my sauces at the game .

"Slight advantage" My A_s
"Tuesday's match in Edmonton will feature a temperature of 19 degrees Fahrenheit around kickoff with winds ranging from 10-20 MPH. Real-feel temperatures will be in the single digits.
Oh yeah, and the forecast calls for 4-9 inches of snow to cover the artificial turf of Commonwealth Stadium before sundown.
Ever play on turf in sub-freezing conditions? Frozen turf offers all the amenities of a wet slab of concrete while also causing debilitating pain in your knees and shins."
I dont believe the Mexicans go and pracice in conditions presented in Edmonton

The Mexican players said that the extreem cold was not a problem, they were more worried by the piles of frozen moose sh*t placed all along the Canuck goal line to help the (to quote uncle) "Canada has an outstanding goalkeeper, whatever his name is," maintain his record of only missing "one shot on frame"

Yes, it was another good strategic move; however, even the Canuck goalie was overcome by the stench and vacated the area in the last two minutes of the tilt thereby leading to the lone Mexican marker.stattointhailand wrote: ↑November 18, 2021, 4:12 pmThe Mexican players said that the extreem cold was not a problem, they were more worried by the piles of frozen moose sh*t placed all along the Canuck goal line to help the (to quote uncle) "Canada has an outstanding goalkeeper, whatever his name is," maintain his record of only missing "one shot on frame"

Re: World Cup 2022 (at the moment)
Scotland getting their pitch ready for their "home" playoff
Re: World Cup 2022 (at the moment)
Oh but they are. The top 4 are home and hosed. When you follow football, you will understand that, statistically, an inferior nation (say, for example Scotland) will only rarely beat a superior nation (let's say, England). When they do, that's commonly referred to as "giant killing" and only happens when there is little at stake.
The US, Canada, Mexico and Panana are presently footballing titans in comparison to Jamaica, Costa Rica, El Salvador and Honduras and the chances of successive "giant killings" over the course of the next few rounds of fixtures are minimal.
Hope that helps.
