Interesting ......... I haven't been a doctor for 30 years, but I could have guessed the new variant would be worse for the elderly. those suffering other major problems and the unvaccinated ......... perhaps I missed my "calling" in life

The only thing that is almost certain in a new variant that becomes the prevalent version is that it’s more infectious.

If it’s going to be more or less deadly than the previous versions is chance.

In fact if it is very much worse it’s likely to die out as it’s victims don’t survive to pass it on.

It’s equally likely (possibly more) to be a milder variant as then it’s victims stay in the general population and spread it round.

3 very accurate points STWW ... the latter seems to be happening as the symtoms are very mild some infected didnt know they had it so carried on life as the new newer normal and passed it on .. being called "in community" infections.

Things are looking grim and after 2 years we could so easily be back to square one.

If you are going to dispute a point, do use the exact quote, what I said was

I would class a million times worse as “ very much worse” wouldn’t you?

So rather than pointlessly calling my statement as inaccurate you are in fact supporting that point, no?

My recollection is that MERS was the worst of the bunch. The mortality rate was so high, it effectively killed itself (all hosts).

So far, it looks like omicron isn't a MERS. Maybe not even a delta but like the flu, a targeted vaccine is required due to its R>2 factor.

If it turns out to be a mild form then 1 in 20 getting to be serious cannot be the figure as the current estimate by age varies from 0.4% in under 40s to 9.2% in the over 60s hospitalised & those figures are over estimated as the total number of cases is under reported.

So it’s more likely to average 1 in 300 reported cases if it’s a mild form, probably 1 in 500 in the significantly higher number of actual cases.

Now even those numbers are not at all good and there is not enough information yet to know how serious the new variant is & it’s looking as if a tweaked vaccination may be required.

Talking about Vaccinations, anyone any knowledge if any at all about the possibility of Booster shots, we will all require them I feel ion about 2-4 months time depending on when we got our second jab.
Is the Thai government mulling this or will we have to source it ourselves. Ju=dging by the info coming out of the UK maybe a Mix and match would be benificail , Booster for example, AZ or Moderna.
