As it woul;d appear following a news Boradcast by the Russians this very morning , the major sticking point is the fact they do not want Expansion of nato now do they want Missiles on their borders from Europe.

It seems that Russia is failing to understand that Ukraine has the autonomy to maker its own decisions and they regret the loss of the USSR as it was, as that was engineered to have OTHER nations on the frontline, NOT Russia.
Oh well over 70 years no war was good, I wiat for the next coup[le oif decades with a small degree of optimism and whole lot of pessimism

it's all simple really , start a full blown civil war, the "rebels" will march west backed by Russia. chaos will reign . one big target will be the gas supply, if the pipe gets destroyed then there is no reason for anyone else to be involved. so many scenarios

It was a Russian-speaking Ukrainian enclave. After they annexed Crimea, the Russians started issuing Russian passports to these Ukrainian nationals so now the enclave is not only speaking the language but claiming they and the land they stand on was ALWAYS Russian.

Let the Russians have Donbass and sign up what's left of Ukraine to NATO and the EU as quickly as possible.

Looks like you were partly right. Seems that's her visit was rubbish. Not as rubbish as Lavrov would tell it but pretty darn close.

You would think our Foreign Secretary would have a better grip on geograpy.

"Meanwhile, there was further embarrassment for Ms Truss after the well-respected Russian daily Kommersant quoted two unnamed diplomatic sources, saying that Mr Lavrov confronted Ms Truss about Voronezh and Rostov, two Russian regions bordering Ukraine where the military build-up was reported.

Ms Truss apparently said the UK "will never recognise" Russian sovereignty over those two regions when asked if she agreed that they were part of Russia. However, the British ambassador reportedly had to intervene to tell Ms Truss that Voronezh and Rostov are part of Russia.

Responding to the incident Ms Truss said: "There was a point in the meeting when I thought Minister Lavrov was talking about a part of Ukraine. I made it very clear that those regions (Rostov and Voronezh) are sovereign parts of Russia."

Maybe just the perils of sending a woman to do a mans work?
