From one colonial to mother England, a job well done.

Yes, imagine what she's seen over the 70 years. Interesting how she's signalled that she'd like to see Camilla as Queen Consort too.

I think she should retire. A woman her age deserves to put her feet up. If the UK had functional political leadership she might.

She should have abdicated years ago, and given Charlie a proper run at the sinecure.

I agree. I don't wish to start WW III but there's a good argument she's been very selfish on this point.

Andrew was her favorite son but regardless of his shenanigans, he wasn't ever in contention. She had her misgivings about Charles which was pretty obvious and a lot of people shared her reticence. Call it a mother's instinct but looking at the mess he arguably made of his marriage and how long it has taken him to get his royal ducks in a row, her instincts have served the monarchy well.

To a certain extent I accept that but I think Charles has looked ready and able to be kxng for over a decade now. She knows how much her oldest child longs to be kxng. I don't think it's a good look having old dodders in high office. E.g. the USSR, Trump, Biden etc. I'd predict a big lift in mood in the UK say in 15 years when the relative youngster William becomes kxng.

What the hell has a functional or non functional political leadership got to do with HM The Queen staying as Head of State. She has no input into political decisions.

Lizzie knows that Charlie boy is "his fathers son" in more ways than ancestry ........ Phil couldn't be trusted to say the correct thing on his own and neither can Charles

In the meantime, in the real world, the Queen’s role in appointing a prime minister is one of her remaining prerogative powers. These are residual powers remaining with the Sovereign that have not been placed elsewhere. The majority of those powers are exercised on her behalf by her ministers, but the power to appoint prime ministers remains with the Queen.

And Johnson will be one of the dirtiest fighters in trying to hang on to the office of Prime Minister. He's a dreadful man. The UK appears to be in a political crisis. The Queen doesn't want to give Charles a hospital pass.

Yes, I think there's something in that. I still recall the spider letters. But might not a recently retired mother be able to counsel her son?

An amazing record , given historically longevity on any Throne is not normal.
She made the promise to serve until she dies and SHE will carry out that promise to the end, no matter what anyone else thinks.
Thje dprobelm as I see it will charles who is NOW 73, want to take on that mantle in say 4-5 years, that will be his chopice and depending on HEALTH issues as well.

But for NOW, individual ( whatever he calls himself ) and Queen Consort Camilla are on the horizon

For info :
A queen consort is the wife of a reigning individual, or an empress consort in the case of an emperor.A queen consort usually shares her spouse's social rank and status. She holds the feminine equivalent of an individual's monarchical titles, but historically, she does not share the regnant's political and military powers.E In contrast, a queen regnant is a queen in her own right with all the powers of a ...

Don't sweat it. The Cambridge's brood mare is happily squeezing out the House of Windsor's enduring, chinless progeny.

I thought you were Pro Royalty, I see now you are as bad as that Moron that occupied the White House 2 years ago, a Republican with no respect of tradition or for that matter anything that smacks of the Establishment .

KP, perhaps if that "moron in the white house" was still there, I doubt Putin would
be so brazen imo. Putin and Bejing recognize Biden as weak.
