Both those comments are true. There are MP's of all sides who just fail to meet the high standards required.

It's just the Tories excel at failing to meet these standards. None of the others come close. Good grief, just look at Alex's excoriation of John Major, one of his own who simply took over Thatcher's sinking ship. It was Geoffrey Howe who fired the first torpedo.

Don't know how many times I have to tell you Tam, I am no Tory. Born and brought up in a (no spare money) working class environment all my pre-working days. I have voted Tory once in my life (after the 1982 Falklands War) I even voted for Bliar's New Labour Party a few times. Now if I had the opportunity, my vote would go to the Tories as even with all their faults they are miles ahead in their ability to run the UK. Your description of EXCORATION of John Major needs to be checked young man makes absolutely no sense. Tell how many other disgruntled Tory MP,s (Major is not even an elected representative any more just another parasite costing the taxpayers millions) go bleating to the Guardian to air their views. I would place a bet on NONE.

It would appear that from next month, the UK's parliamentarians have awarded themselves a 2.7% pay rise triggered by the Consumer Price Index's (CPI) latest adjustments for inflation.

Last week, I received an SMS notification from my UK mobile phone carrier that there will be a 3.9% increase on my regular and extra monthly service charges triggered by the Consumer Price Index's (CPI) latest adjustments for inflation.

I thought that the CPI was a system for employers and governments to monitor costs and inflation with regard to adjusting remuneration, compensation and welfare payments. I was unaware that companies could use this data to justify rate hikes.

I agree, the same can be said of most western democracies, From Australasia to The North American Continent and European countries .
Whenever you have a MAN/WOMAN elevated to the Highest Position and uses that Position with limited checks and balances governing their actions you have problems . More so if the actions are made to solely benefit that person

W henI was in the UK and a Political animal ( Councillor ) I would have embarked on a lengthy discussion about UK politics, however 20 odd years later one can only speak withy generalisations , so asking me a pointed question about which do I think is best. I can say that after the LAST 2 years with the Pandemic taking its toll on everyone, I would not have wanted to be in any politicians shoes during that .
Currently we have what I consider the best of the bunch but there are others far better I think in the wings. people are so critical of everything and everyone it would take a SAINT to become a politician or someone who is so thick skinned , nothing would get to them and they would not care`. Either of those choices would not benefit any country .

Only a saint? Is that what years of catching the crumbs falling from the Tory table has inured us to think?

All it should take is honest men or women. I think there's a lot of them in the Tory uplift from the last election. Bright young things with clear eyes and dreams that have replaced several of the career parliamentarians who acknowledged they were past their use-by date (but got their peerage anyway).

Then you take a look at Gove, Patel, JRM and the cabinet and you just know why there's scant hope.

Last I read, Starmer, Rayner et al were still the unelected SHADOW government who, until Vlad shat the bed had turned the tables on the Johnson coterie in the vaunted UK opinion polls.

Now, try and tell us why you are still in thrall of the elected nincompoopery including the vacuous, louche millionaire Jacob Rees-Mogg? Here's a clue for you, "look at the other side" isn't by any stretch of your foreskin an appropriate answer.

You will not have read in the Guardian or heard via the BBC but comments made by aspiring politicians earlier in their careers have come to light and both Starmer and Lammy have been critical of NATO , and documents from the office of the ATTORNEY general when that high office was held by Starmer prove that attempts to prosecute Saville for child molestation were either sidelined deliberately , or conveniently lost.
For those who like assuming what people think I have not posted anything favorable about JRM
