The Buffalo Bills have a good chance if they can shore up their defence

I believe that would be the AFC, LYM. All a part of the NFL now. Yeah, I know, and I tend to regard the AFC as the old AFL as well. Those of us who remember the early days of the AFL/NFL rivalry will probably always think of the pioneering teams in those terms.

Thanks for the reminder about the AFC. Yes, I will probably always think of that conference as the AFL. I heard just a few minutes ago that Brady is coming back. Good for him. Maybe he can last as long or longer than George Blanda.

Re: Who will win the AFL this year
I'm biased. I say the 'scray will win every year. But this year is different to 54 out of the last 55 years. If not us then the reigning premiers or port. Essendon roughie. as a roughie.
LYM and Shado the AFL evolved from the VFL, which was preceded by the VFA, which began in 1877.

Essendon as a roughie?
I wasn't expecting them to make the eight.

All I can predict at this time of the season is the Eagles haven't a chance. Bulldogs now subject to change after round 12!

Re: Who will win the AFL this year
https://www.nma.gov.au/defining-moments ... s-footballThe Victorian Football Association (VFA) formed in May 1877 comprising delegates from all levels of the game – senior, junior and country clubs. Its brief was to supervise all matters relating to football including revising the rules, resolving disputes, and providing umpires for the bigger games. It was also responsible for the promotion of the game and the organisation of intercolonial matches.
https://www.nma.gov.au/defining-moments ... s-footballIn 1896 the eight strongest clubs – Melbourne, Essendon, Geelong, Collingwood, South Melbourne, Fitzroy, Carlton, and St Kilda – formed the Victorian Football League (VFL). Tired of ‘carrying’ the weaker clubs, they were keen to make the sport economically viable, commercial and more appealing to spectators.
https://www.nma.gov.au/defining-moments ... s-footballThe VFL’s desire to build a national league began to be realised when Brisbane and West Coast were admitted to the competition in 1987.
The League further acknowledged the national expansion of Australian Rules when it changed its name to the Australian Football League (AFL) in 1990. Since then, Adelaide (1991), Fremantle (1995) and Port Adelaide (1997) have joined and foundation club Fitzroy merged with the Brisbane Bears to form the Brisbane Lions after the 1996 season.
Recent additions to the AFL are Gold Coast (2011) and Greater Western Sydney (2012), broadening the competition to an 18-team league.
Jack we were always going to let you outsiders in to have a kick.

Re: Who will win the AFL this year
My memory is a bit different, Lew.
Most of the VFL clubs were on the bones of their arses in the mid-80s - including the Doggies I suspect. So the licence fees paid by the Eagles and Brissy were essential to the survival of the VFL, which then grudgingly accepted reality, and changed its name to (the pseudo) AFL in 1990.
Plus let's not forget State of Origin SAFL and WAFL teams were regularly giving floggings to the VFL state team whenever they met.![Very Happy :D](./images/smilies/icon_biggrin.gif)

Looking a bit bleak for the Scray. But what can you do when you are a bulldog through and through - have lived through a lot worse. Long way to go.
That mob from Freo looking ok Jack. Any sympathies there?
Would love to see Melbourne choke. Already over the silver spoon pricks.

If he doesn't care, I suppose 747man won't be back. That's a shame. I think.
The Essendon - Sydney game is too late for me tonight. I've been a bit slack and not really been following the AFL much this season.
Returning to some old news, it seems that Dustin Martin's father's death was a suicide? I don't think I saw the cause of death mentioned.
