Ukraine
Re: Ukraine
I reckon there's a whole lot of mileage coming for anything related to the Ukraine military. Delta Force, SEALs, Royal Marines, SBS, Green Berets, Speznatz, Ghurka, Quds, Sayeret Matkal...make way for the new kids on the block.

Krugman pointing the finger at the Germans:
https://www.nytimes.com/2022/04/07/opin ... nergy.htmlAs one member of the German Council of Economic Experts, which fills a role somewhat similar to that of the U.S. Council of Economic Advisers, put it, an embargo on Russian gas would be difficult but “feasible.”
The ECONtribute analysis offers a range of estimates, but their worst-case number is that an embargo on Russian gas would temporarily reduce Germany’s real G.D.P. by 2.1 percent. I’ll put that number in context shortly ...
What strikes me — a parallel that for some reason I haven’t seen many people drawing — is the contrast between Germany’s current reluctance to make moderate sacrifices, even in the face of horrific war crimes, and the immense sacrifices Germany demanded of other countries during the European debt crisis a decade ago ...
But while Germany was willing to impose economic and social catastrophe on countries it claimed had been irresponsible in their borrowing, it has been unwilling to impose far smaller costs on itself despite the undeniable irresponsibility of its past energy policies.
I’m not sure how to quantify this, but my sense is that Germany received far more and clearer warning about its feckless reliance on Russian gas than Greece ever did about its pre-crisis borrowing. Yet it seems as if Germany’s famous eagerness to treat economic policy as a morality play applies only to other countries.

Re: Ukraine
New general in town.
Russia has put general Aleksandr Dvornikov in charge of its invasion in Ukraine.
A Russian general believed to be behind the horrific shelling of a railway station full of women and children, has been reportedly named.
The missile attack killed at least 52 people in Kramatorsk in the eastern region of Donetsk with images showing bodies lying amidst scattered luggage and the rubble of the station.
Captain General Aleksandr Dvornikov is likely to be behind the attack on civilians that left around 300 people injured, Western officials reportedly believe.
Women, children and the elderly were seen running for safety moments after what is thought to have been a short-range ballistic missile that was aimed at the station.
The remains of the missile was also found nearby and had the words “for the children” written in Russian on the side.

Re: Ukraine
I think Putin's plan of destroying these cities back to the stone age is backfiring on him. His plan is to make the Ukrainians give up. What is actually happening is the Ukrainians are becoming even more resolute. Putin could completely destroy all the cities and that would create an even bigger more dangerous guerilla army armed with high tech weapons. Even if Putin wins, he still loses. All the Russians are doing is satisfying their sadistic nature and causing even more of his cannon fodder soldiers to be slaughtered. Surrendered Russian soldiers will be executed.

Former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, who now serves as deputy chairman of Russia’s Security Council, said this week that the goal of the Ukraine war is for “the opportunity to finally build an open Eurasia — from Lisbon to Vladivostok.”
Re: Ukraine
New general in charge? Dvornikov? who "wiped out ISIS". Ah well, no he didn't, that was his successor who had some successes in Syria. Dvornikov pretty much screwed the pooch. He's a old school Red Army type of figher. Massed artillery and air bombings followed by a frontal assault. https://medium.com/@x_TomCooper_x/here- ... a7ef7

Here they come again. Russian column east of Kharkiv. Looks like they haven't learnt from their past mistakes: large column, single file, daylight, ukraine territory, no space to deploy offroad. Ideal target for a Swichblade 600 or a TB2.
