Ukraine
Re: Ukraine
"Ukraine also claimed to have destroyed Vasily Bykov, another ship involved in the taking of Snake Island. Ukrainian media announced on March 7 that a volley of artillery rockets hit and sank the Bykov, after two speedboats baited into a trap – only for the ship to show up in Sevastopol on March 16, unharmed."

Re: Ukraine
If the Moskva wasn't hit, there's some serious disinformation going on: CNN, Reuters, The Guardian, France News, Axios, ABC.aus, Dailymail, VOA, Aljazerra, Russian Ministry of Defense in on the news. The ship is named after the city of Moscow. The crew was supposedly evacuated. Chilly seas, that Black Sea.
Re: Ukraine
The Moskva is undeniably damaged. The Russians claim an onboard fire caused ordinance to explode. The Ukrainians claim to have launched a missile attack on the Moskva from a "hidden" site near Odessa. Pick your own truth I guess.
The unsubstantiated Ukrainian claims to have sunk another Russian ship, the Vasily Bykov are... unsubstantiated.

In other shipping news, this guy reports the latest on yacht seizures/arrests. Today's jackpot: the superyacht Dilbar is seized by officials in Hamburg at Lurssen

Re: Ukraine
On that Moskva cruiser fire. Take your pick:
- Ukrainaian anit-ship missiles.
- unsafe practices by the crew
- utter incompetence
- sabotage...
Doesn't really matter though. Even the Russian government admits it is out of action. The largest ship and flagship of the Russian Black Sea Fleet. 12,500 tons.. They can't bring in any more warships into the Black Sea since the Turks have closed the Dardanelles to any warships not orginally stationed in the Black Sea...

'In theory, the ship’s anti-air defence capabilities should provide enough cover to avoid being hit by a subsonic missile like Neptune.

Re: Ukraine
It appears that the pipeline network in Ukraine bringing oil to Europe (including Ukraine) from Russia passes through Ukraine. This raises some interesting dangers and possibilities.

Re: Ukraine
All the crying and hand wringing about Russia in control of Europe's gas, seems to me that Russia has no intention of cutting supplies and never has . just another false flag. Same with Ukraine trying to shame EU countries for buying Russian energy, truth is Ukraine is the one likely to cut off supplies because its the best way to hurt Russia. Doh what am I thinking...money to be made by all. The only people pushing the narrative of Russian control is american energy lobbyists . what a score that would be, not only control of our financial system, the Americans will be in control of our energy too. Money money money . so let's not forget its not just Russian that can stop sales ,Ukraine can do it too. But neither of them will.

Re: Ukraine
I remember years ago, the circumstances may have changed now I admit, that when I was asking as local Gas Board Engineer about stopping the flow of Gas ( due to Industrial proposed action , he stated they will not as that COULD lead to air in the systemm which could be more dangerous to everyone as eacch subscriber /household would have to be visited to ensure no air in their system. I assume that would also apply to main distribution GAS PIPES as well.,.
Re: Ukraine
The only way for air to enter is if the pipeline pressire was less than the surounding air.

Re: Ukraine
Garden hose. Water under pressure greater than atmospheric pressure connected at one end flows out the other end. Turn off the pressurized water, the flow stops and without any form of check valve or other non-return device, a small amount of air enters the hose from the open to air outflow end and displaces some water. A vacuum is formed. Disconnect the supply end and that vacuum is broken, the water in the pipe gets forced out rapidly by air at atmospheric pressure entering the hose from both ends.
Note to UM's Sunday engineers: pipelines, including great long transnational gas ones being filled at the whim of a despotic autocrat, have check valves and other non-return devices. On the other hand, the last check valves on the old fashioned British domestic gas line was the simple stop valve outside under the pavement and in our case, the one controlled by the gas meter under the stairs. Domestic gas appliances back then didn't all have the built-in safety non-return valves of modern ones.
To summarize, there's no way air can easily enter the gas pipelines from Russia in lieu of gas flow and KP's gas man was probably correct.

A pressurized Gas pipeline is nit the same as a Garden Hose
