Hi guys, when you are not retired (I'm 40) and you apply for a visa (3 months or 1 year, with extension) what are the requirments then? I've been reading a lot and checking it out, but to tell you the true, I dont know it anymore, I've got a few million bath in the bank and want to start a business with my thai wife, who has info for me?

As you are married, get a non-immigrant visa based on Supporting a Thai National (often called a marriage visa). Whether you get a single entry (3 months) or multiple entry (as many as you can cram into 1 year, but usually 4 lots of 3 months) - it depends how long you really want to stay here initially.
After a minimum of 60 days in Thailand you can apply for an extension which - the first time you do it will take you up to your 1 year point (ie. a further 10 months) and subsequent ext. applications will give you the full 12 months each time.
If you plan on staying here long term - there isn't much point getting a multi -entry then , just get a single entry and extend (or apply) after the first 60 days.
The first application to extend will take quite a few months and whilst you are being processed, you will be allowed to stay here in monthly increments until a decision is made.
The requirements (as of October 2006) are that you have a marriage certificate, your wifes ID card, proof of your address, the fee (1900 baht) and ........wait for it.... an income of 40,000 baht monthly either singly or jointly (thats a minimum )
There used to be an option of showing 400,000 baht in a Thai bank but that is now only for those already in the system. New applicants must show the monthly income.
Your wife needs to accompany you for the application for the extension.
As for starting a business - thats a whole new topic. You will need a work permit and if its your own business will need to set up a company also to provide you with the work permit. I am unsure whether your wife can own the business and you work for her but I wouldn't hold my breath as you are taking work away from a Thai and most occupations are restricted for foreigners as employees.

Paul, the TW owns this business, and I work for her (with a work permit). Also when we went to extend the visa for another year, she had to show the taxes paid last year to present. But to play it safe I had 300k baht plus in the bank, wasn't needed as we found out. I guess playing it safe was better for us on the money in the bank. This was all done on the 27th of last month, so it's recent.

You might want to check in on a business visa, but think the Non-Immigration "O" for supporting spouse would be the best way. The main reason is that they will consider what you bring into the country and what your wife's business is making, should be a combination of 40,000 baht per month. Also the approval of visa's for supporting spouse is not approved in Nong Khai, the paperwork is sent to Bangkok for approval (usually 1 to 2 months before approval is sent back). You will get 30 day extensions until the approval comes back from Bangkok.
