Climate Change
Looks like "carbon bombs" are the climate alarmist's newest boogeyman.
This is a (terribly) long read so if you've already had your Horlicks but still can't get to sleep, give this a go.

A worry. I struggle to see the tide turning.[T]he world’s biggest fossil fuel firms are quietly planning scores of “carbon bomb” oil and gas projects that would drive the climate past internationally agreed temperature limits with catastrophic global impacts, a Guardian investigation shows.
The exclusive data shows these firms are in effect placing multibillion-dollar bets against humanity halting global heating. Their huge investments in new fossil fuel production could pay off only if countries fail to rapidly slash carbon emissions, which scientists say is vital ...
The Middle East and Russia often attract the most attention in relation to future oil and gas production but the US, Canada and Australia are among the countries with the biggest expansion plans and the highest number of carbon bombs. The US, Canada and Australia also give some of the world’s biggest subsidies for fossil fuels per capita.

Re: Climate Change
Needs a game changer, a real attention grabber. Islands sinking underwater or visible cycles of extreme and unpredictable weather changes that cause fires and floods doesn't seem to be enough.
When one can swap one's fossil-fuel powered car for an EV that is equivalent in price, durability, range, economy and running costs? When every petrol/diesel station forecourt has an equivalent number of rapid-charging points for EV's? But that's low-hanging fruit. Fossil fuel dependency goes way beyond just cars and trucks.
The major oil and gas companies are investigating and investing in renewables. But the majors are not the bulk of oil and gas producers. There's over 200 "oil and gas" companies globally but not all of them are drilling for it and the vast majority if them aren't remotely interested in renewables.
There's also a growing challenge from the state-owned entities, your national oil companies, or NOC's. That's your Petronas, Sonangol, Petrobras and, after Putin's meddling, all the Russian "independent" producers. Here in Thailand it's PTTEP. They ostensibly pursue energy security for their homelands but if you can make great gobs of money while doing it, why not? What government is going to deny itself that lucrative revenue stream?

As for the Chinese, it's hard to know what's really going on behind those slitty eyes but we've got a good idea of how Xi sees their place in the world.

China's total renewable energy capacity exceeded 1,000GW in 2021, accounting for 43.5 per cent of the country's total power generation capacity, According to preliminary data from the US Energy Information Administration, renewable energy accounted for about 12.6% of total primary energy consumption. so the chinese are doing very well, India not so much. All very well Dean but China and Laos are totally screwing millions of people downstream of their clean Hydro dams who used to depend on the Mekong for their living and its only going to get worse.

china has always suffered flooding ,damage and loss of life. Dams are a way to mitigate the issue and generate power at the same time, guess its their land and their rain. like every country around the world they serve their own populations interests first. it not just dams, run off pollution from farming and factories all along the Mekong are destroying it anyway.

I think Chinese girls are gorgeous. I even like their eyes. tamada might too? I'm not a fan of the filters they use on social media to try and look better.
The Chinese, Americans (Trump) and Aussies (the coalition) are big worries. I don't know enough about your mob. I'm from a small country so we'll end up getting pushed around on climate if we are too rogue. Do X,Y and Z or face massive tariffs from the US, EU or China etc.

don't see that 43.5% here.. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Renewable_energy_in_China
the chart for 2021 indicated 20.21% for renewables which include Hydro, wind and solar
Note they consolidate fossil fuels for 2020 and 2021 leaving us asking how much of that was "dirty" coal..
but here's a list of their power stations by energy source.. Lots of coal burning power staitons...[urlhttps://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_power_stations_in_China][/url]

China's total renewable energy capacity exceeded 1,000GW in 2021, accounting for 43.5 per cent of the country's total power generation capacity, 10.2 percentage points higher than in 2015. The country aims to have 80 per cent of its total energy mix come from non-fossil fuel sources by 2060, and achieve a combined 1,200GW of solar and wind capacity by 2030

Depends on what region they come from.
In Shenzhen where I was based the girls tended to be from Northern Regions with great bodies but a frogs head on top. Agree, if you do get a 'looker' they can be really outstanding/breathtaking.
Re: Climate Change
I worked in China for the best part of eight years and dated a couple of Chinese girls. The first was a manual worker from Gansu working in the oil field like myself. Lovely singer and had cute freckles. The other was an air hostess from Guangzhou that I met on a domestic flight who went on to become a model in Hong Kong.AlexO wrote: ↑May 12, 2022, 1:49 pmDepends on what region they come from.

Suppose that's why they are they are Dean. We are the 'Masters', we have flooding because we have dammed the river. We can release the waters and basically don't give a monkey's what happens down stream. Meanwhile people suffer devastation (a bit like Thailand during the rainy season) Opposite in dry weather. Agree run offs are causing damage but not on the scale that 'Clean Energy' is and will continue to have on the millions of lives who depend (or used to) on the river in the lower reaches.
