Has anyone been fishing on the lake created by Huai Luong Dam? My gf's family has property split by a small arm of this lake. She says the fishing is real good in November when the water rises. They have nets and traps (?) in place. I don't know what kind of fish, but she says big.
Any info would be appreciated, also where is a good local shop for fishing equipment? I have a bit, but bringing from Texas Gulf Coast to Thailand just doesn't seem like a practical idea.

I would be interested in which park in NK that you could do fishing.Must have been a private fish pond!Where was it's physical location?ebroguy wrote:Hi there !
Just been to the fishing park in Nong Khai and had 3 hours great fishing caught 3 cats the biggest one being about 15 kilos , great price of 200 bht and a fantastic lunch afterwards , cant be bad eh !! .
Oh, and by the way , lock up your daughters , wives and grand mothers co's I still have five days left !!!
Hi there ,
I,m not sure of the name of the park , it's more of a commercial venture really , but it is right at the end of what I think is called Prajak road , you then come to a 'T' junction and it is across on the opposite side of the road , not sure if you can keep the fish or not , most of the locals were putting even big ones back , to my surprise , but I would imagine if you were willing to pay a few extra bht then you could keep them .
There is a good restaurant on site and they will probably cook them for you ,
One tip I could give you is to use orange sized balls of sticky rice on the hook , which they will give you a bag of when you go there to fish , the locals were doing this and leaving the bait in the water untill they had a take .
Have fun !

Quite a big fishing shop in the night market, just behind 7/11. Have also noticed that anywhere of a 'town' size that has a reasonable sized river running through it also nearly always sells fishing equipment. Not sure of the quality tho....sgt wrote:, also where is a good local shop for fishing equipment? I have a bit, but bringing from Texas Gulf Coast to Thailand just doesn't seem like a practical idea.

OK,gotcha! It is not a park but a resturant on a large pond!We have been there 3 times. The food is ''hit and miss'',but it can be enjoyable watching the anglers catch fish. They weigh them if they are very large and release them back. They hold contests there for the biggest fish caught.Your directions are spot on!
Hi there Stan !
Well ! Yes it is a large pond I suppose , but I had an enjoyable afternoon there , and as there are not many other locations to fish around Udon it is at least somewhere to go and 'wet a line ' , I had a lovely meal at the restaurant as well , I thought the food and service was fine , but then I'm easily pleased , and as I'm a newby to Udon I have not much experience to compare it to .
Incidently , I visited another restaurant with a larger ' Pond ' but only for a meal , The pond though was much larger and surrounded by lilly pads , and looked really fishy ! , this was on the main road to Nong Khai but not far outside Udon , probably about 8-10 Km ? do you know this place ? it had wooden walkways to a seating area with tables overlooking the lake ! .
Maybe with a little investigation and a few Baht fishing could be possible here too ! .
