Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Tex.) tweeted that he and his wife are praying for the children and families affected by the incident and expressed his disdain for the conversation about gun legislation.

“You see Democrats and a lot of folks in the media whose immediate solution is to try to restrict the constitutional rights of law-abiding citizens,” he said. “That doesn’t work. That’s not effective. It doesn’t prevent crime.”

Ted Cruz isn't alone in avoiding the heavily armed elephant in the room (again).

This from Texas Governor Greg Abbott.

"When parents drop their kids off at school, they have every expectation to know that they're going to be able to pick their child up when that school day ends.

"And there are families who are in mourning right now, the state of Texas is in mourning with them, for the reality that these parents are not going to be able to pick up their children."

Thanks for that Captain Obvious. No recognition that at the same time as "parents drop their kids off at school", automatic weapons are needlessly being sold just down the street.

More from his sidekick.

"Ken Paxton, Texas' attorney-general has claimed in response to the shooting in Uvalde that arming teachers could keep children safe in the future.

Mr Paxton, a Republican, told conservative news network Newsmax that "having potentially teachers and other administrators be armed" could prevent future attacks.

He said: "First responders typically can't get there in time to prevent a shooting. It's just not possible unless you have a police officer on every campus.

"I think you're going to have to do more at the school."

Well said Mr Oblivious, the NRA loves victim blaming. If the kids are bringing guns to school, let's just 'armor up' the schools. You can get kevlar for kindergarteners after all.

It should be obvious by now that new laws will help NOTHING. These lunatics pay no attention to the law. I too have no idea what needs be done other than trying to enforce the laws that already exist.

thats the thing. the kid ( literally a week after turning 18) bought the ar 15 legally. sounds insane? it is. pass a criminal background check
he's cleared to purchase. ban on assault guns? that lapsed over 10 yrs ago. pistol even must be 21
but a long gun( ostensibly for hunting) can buy 18

It is obvious to an onlooker that this problem stems from the American love of the ability o bear arms and have guns, something when thier CONSTITUTION was written was a requirement to maintain peace and prpotect the county.

Now apart from sporting events, they have no need as United States of Anerica has a large Military ( Air/Sea and Land ) . Only the fear of MEN afraid of losing their masculinity fight to retain guns and the 100 so-called intelligent people sit back and continue to allow this to continue. Shame on all of them, represent the people NO, represent a group that is now over two centuries OUT OF DATE, YES !!!
About time the country founded as escape from religious persecution, grew up and learnt how to protect its citizens. True it will NOT solve all problems regarding GUN usage, but hell it will go a long wat. after Sandy Hook masny countires around ther world amended their Gun laws, but in America in some states opwnership was made easier as was carrying it in public. AQre they insane
People kill people, guns are just a tool but to many of the 100 so-called intelliggent SWSenatorts they would rather have endorsement from the NRA than stand up for their states general public. What a load of weak kneed,, lily livered cowardly people they are, Not Adults but Chldren !!!
Some will but most do not and the people elect them. In that case please will these Senators tell the parents, ---- happens . Tough !!!!!!!!!!!!

Former president Donald Trump is headlining a forum at the National Rifle Association’s annual meeting in Houston this Friday, three days after a school shooting in Uvalde, Tex., killed 14 elementary school students and a teacher.

The forum is also scheduled to include Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, South Dakota Gov. Kristi L. Noem, Rep. Dan Crenshaw of Texas, and North Carolina Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson, all Republicans. The next night, “American Pie” singer Don McLean is scheduled to perform.
Oh Buddha, I expect Trump is going to get a hell of a lot of attention.

Emotional distress, nah he just loves his guns. Couldn't wait to be able to own one, and of course put it to some use. It's the American way.

I hear Rep Sheila Jackson Lee (D - Tx 18th district) and others are trying to get Friday's NRA hootenanny cancelled.
