The new Elvis movie is out and may be worth a watch. Have you seen it yet, Uncle T?

Not yet, but I will. It doesn't open in British North America until 24 June. However, many are all shook up over the preview.

Unsure of the accuracy of the demeanour of Colonel Parker as portrayed in the movie but it may go some way in explaining Elvis’s reliance on drugs, having another male micromanaging your personal and performing life. Baz Luhrmann certainly engendered a disdain for Parker in the role played.

There is no doubt Parker manipulated Elvis partly to gain more financial control to pay for his gambling debts. It is also true that without Parker, Elvis would have remained a regional star recording on Sun Records. Parker got him the big contract on RCA, and the publicity he needed to become a star with his appearances on the Milton Berle show and Ed Sullivan. The movie is not entirely accurate, but it's pretty close as far as these things go.

Elvis seems to have discovered the world of drugs while in the army, but his reliance on them exploded after his break up with Priscilla. He liked them. Parker is not responsible for the reliance on drugs.

It seems widely accepted that this Parker chap was a dodgy geezer and not even a proper Yank.

Is it true Elvis dies while eating hamburgers while sitting on the shitter? Or is that an urban myth?

He was Dutch and could not get a passport so Elvis never did a world tour except when he came to Canada (Toronto, Ottawa and Vancouver) in 1957. He was supposed to play in Montreal, but the Catholic Church, which was politically powerful in Quebec at the time, banned Elvis from appearing.

It is not true. He died on the toilet reading.

No, besides he liked cheese burgers not the plain old burgers.

He was reading a spiritual book when he died something along the lines of the face of Jesus or the Shroud of Turin.
