I think I recall reading the British in effect stole $1 trillion from India. Presumably in today's money. I think the trillion would largely have been taken according to law (e.g. taxes, levies, tariffs etc.) although the subsequent suffering must have been dreadful. I'm not saying modern Britain behaves likes this. Queen Victoria was buried long ago. If New Zealand was settled far earlier, we'd probably have been bastards as well and helped with the plundering.

You need to wiki your google more. Cruz became a full Sherman and gave up his rights to Canuckism in 2016 while seeking the Republican nomination. Although a court ruled that he could have still ran for POTUS as a dually (his mom was a purebreed), he did the deed ostensibly to counter those annoying "birthers" within the GOP ranks.
