This telescope is going to be really exciting if it can reach into the past as is suggested here. Still, it begs the questions, what was here in the beginning and how did it get there? I mean if there was stuff present prior to the Big Bang, where did this stuff originate and how?

Recently published comparisons between the two along with professional comments have indicated Hubble and it's technology have definitely gone past their "use by date"! Really too bad it cannot be returned to Earth and located in a Museum for a dignified and justly deserved retirement.

Yes, it will replace Hubble. Its images are in colour compared to Hubble's black and white images.

Why do you ask?

My first 'ain' comment was reflective of the multiple colors in the first published snapshot posted by mak. Hubble didn't deliver that texture.

The second 'ain' was in response to LYM raising the perpetual question of how did it all kick off?

That's a great question that I can't answer although it might have more impact on the price of fish (preferably halibut) and chips. For the moment, let's just concentrate our minds and find out what existed, and where, before the Big Bang.

It's probably impossible to know at this point. What we learn will provide new bases and subjects for research for many years into the future. We may not see direct benefits for decades, same as with past space and other scientific exploration.

At the risk of further upsetting BD in SA, the JWT is simply opening a cosmic can o' worms.

Just enjoy the revelations that science will be allowed to reveal while we are still here and accept that this book that has no beginning probably hasn't got any ending either.

At the very least, and unlike billionaires joyriding to the edge of it, this is beneficial space exploration.
