Re: Summer travel to/from the UK
Heathrow is becoming a disaster. As you probably know, the airport has asked airlines not to book any more passengers during the summer because it has already exceeded its capacity to handle the number passengers arriving and departing. In response, Emirates said that it won't comply with the request, and if the airport is mismanaged, it's not the airlines' problem.

Clear fast track lane on the right. Pic not great as I was trying to disguise the fact that I was taking a pic as the queuers clearly resented anyone taking priority. Dont think Stats would approve either![]()

The airport infrastructure, in terms of manpower, is no longer there, skipper. Is it a stretch of the imagination to identify two root causes? Covid-19 and people changing their working patterns after furlough. Then Brexit, where Johnny Foreigner went home and doesn't see a need to return to the great Brexit economic experiment.
I understand Doncaster airport may close because it's no longer considered as economically viable.

Lack of pram facilities at Doncaster for teenage mums
Re: Summer travel to/from the UK
Part of the problem was wholesale redundancies among the ground crew and airport workers - they had to find other jobs - and many of them DID find them and are not going back to the old jobs. Also salaries have been cut from 2020 levels in many cases and extra shift work.
My son went through Heathrow on Wednesday - it wasn't busy and he had no problems, but most of the staff seemed somewhat bemused and were barely able to speak English - maybe they are recruiting straight off the beaches in Kent....

Are you saying the people arriving in dinghies from France can't speak English?

It will be nice to arrive in London when the temperature tops 40 degrees.

Re: Summer travel to/from the UK
Is this a case of BA thinking its not worth the extra admin/hastle involved with adding B300 to their fares for non Thais, but not for Thais, then having to deduct the B300 before working out any sales promotion % and then add it back to the final figure .......... double the paper/internet space/employee worktime for zero reward ......... not worth the bother, use the plane/crew to go somewhere else with demand that doesn't produce new hoops to be jumped through at the drop of a hat
Re: Summer travel to/from the UK
^ No. They need their airplanes to fly empty to more promising places than Bangkok in order to maintain their priceless airport slots.

Re: Summer travel to/from the UK
Landed into Heathrow T4 on Friday morning at 6.30 (approx).
It was without doubt the most efficient arrival experience ever.
The queue for immigration at first looked long but moved very quickly. Once getting in the queue took 10 minutes to get to the e-gate and got through within 15 seconds.
Our bags were already waiting for us on the belt!
So around 20 mins all in from the plane to exiting the airport.
Amazing!
Edit: flying Qatar Airways A380 ECONOMY class. We were one of the first off after first and business.

It sounds like an interesting trip. Did you get a good look at the white cliffs and France?

No, but I did receive a message from an Icelandic friend inviting me to Reykjavik when the next heat wave strikes in Blighty.

My wife and son flew out last Friday week ( 15th) on Eva - was a 2 hr check in at heathrow a pain in the arse to say the least. In BKK very easy and quick. I fly in 10 days time so fingers crossed it’s a bit quicker the lhr departure end.
