Climate change is causing the widespread warming of our land, oceans and atmosphere. Apart from this, it also has the potential to increase volcanic activity, affect the size of eruptions, and alter the "cooling effect" that follows volcanic eruptions.

Some scientists suspect increased rainfall led to the damaging 2018 Kīlauea eruption in Hawaii. This was preceded by months of heavy rainfall, which infiltrated the earth and increased underground water pressure within the porous rock. They believe this could have weakened and fractured the rock, facilitating the movement of magma and triggering the eruption.

But other experts disagree, and say there's no substantial link between rainfall events and eruptions at Kīlauea volcano.

As the climate warms, research shows this will change how volcanic gases interact with the atmosphere. Importantly, the outcome won't be the same for all eruptions.

There's only one active volcano in Norway but the reservoirs that feed their prolific hydro-electric power generation industry are at their lowest levels in memory. This has had such an impact on their domestic power supply that they are planning reducing the amount they export to the UK who, in lieu of gas from Russia, had inked special deals with Norway for this year's winter electricity supplies only a few short (hot and dry) summer months ago.

It may be interesting scientifically, but i doubt that any small increase in Volcanic eruptions will have any significant long term effect on our climate. SO2 aerosols only last a year or two. Unless we get a super volcano eruption like Yellowstone, which MIGHT make a difference. Would certainly knock the USA for 6.

Got to agree with the broad sentiment presented here. The idea of unseasonably wet weather causing instability of the shallow sub-surface and thus causing volcanoes to pop like a squeezed zit is a stretch of the genuine narrative of global warming. Climate change is real enough without the embellishments of unfounded and unscientific 'theory'. Same as long Covid IMHO. A bad situation that's not made any easier by some spurious happenstance that's not been fully researched. The medical physiological equivalent is called a premature ejaculation.
